On December 5, Diablo 4 received a new event for the endgame, meant for all players looking for a new challenge. However, according to players, it is so time-consuming and hard that they declare the season to be over for themselves.
- “Abattoir of Zir” is essentially a new dungeon where you have to craft specific seals. In the dungeon, you encounter particularly tough opponents and receive the glyph “Tears of Blood” upon successful completion. However, you only have 10 minutes per run. If you die, or a member of your group dies, the whole fun ends.
- The event is supposed to provide a challenge for all players who are basically done with Season 2, including the season journey, and have nothing left to do in Diablo 4.
- The Diablo expert wudijo spoke with the developers at BlizzCon about the event and said at the time: “Abattoir of Zir” could be so difficult that your endgame meta builds will stand no chance.
Not only are the individual stages of the dungeon quite challenging, but many players find leveling the glyph you receive at the end to be too tedious. On Reddit, a player writes on December 6: He believes he is done with the season. He sees no reason for the event.
Even the first levels are too hard, says the player
What bothers him about the event? On Reddit, the user “HipGamer” shares his impression of the new endgame event “Abattoir of Zir” on December 6 and explains that he sees no reason to take on the challenge.
In the post titled “I believe I am done with Season 2,” he writes:
I have to give Blizzard credit for creating an entertaining season, and the surprising announcements […] kept me playing longer than I normally would.
Although I have a Necro at level 100, I do not feel compelled to do the “Abattoir of Zir”[-dungeon]. […] I have no issue with not being able to complete all 25 levels [of the dungeon], but that I cannot at least complete the first few is disappointing.
He also does not want to farm “terrible loot” for two weeks to get his build up to speed just to level the new strong glyph. He considers himself a casual player, and he is content that he has reached level 100 with his character, completed the season journey, and finished the battle pass.
“For many people, this is probably the end”
What do other players say about it? In a comment, “HipGamer” adds under his post on Reddit: “Seriously. I thought, oh yes, ‘AoZ’ will be fun, then I did it and thought, okay, this is not worth the time.”
The user “hitext” replies: “I literally logged in after a 3-week break, was excited to try AoZ, crafted the seal, went in, got killed in one hit, and logged out. Enough of Season 2 for me, lol.”
“lonnyjuce” writes in a comment: “It is quite ironic that this content was probably intended to fill the gameplay until the next season. But for many people, it is probably the end instead.”
“I managed it on the fourth try. […] Now that I have received the glyph, I do not feel like completing the second level [of the dungeon]. It is just not fun at all,” comments “ethan1203”.
What is up with the glyph? The new glyph “Tears of Blood” provides a massive boost to your damage. According to GameStar, the glyph can be leveled up to 200 times, promising a theoretical and multiplicative damage bonus of up to 1,000%.

Is anything being changed? Macrobioboi, like wudijo, is part of the team creating Diablo builds for maxroll.gg. On X (formerly Twitter), he writes on December 6, the XP grind needed to make the glyph strong enough to take him to the next levels of the dungeon is huge. This is not a fun or exciting gameplay loop to look forward to.
In response, developer Joe Shelly on X states: “Thanks for the feedback! We are closely monitoring how players are handling this new event, including leveling the glyph, and discussing options.”
It remains to be seen whether the developers will change anything about the challenge in the dungeon and about the grind required to level up the glyph. Next up is the Midwinter Plague in Diablo 4 – a Christmas event that will arrive in Sanctuary on December 12:
