With the extension “Vessel of Hatred,” mercenaries are coming to Diablo 4. This feature actually comes from Diablo 2 and has now made its way into the latest installment of the series. We will show you which companions are available.
What are these companions? Already in Diablo 2, you could hire mercenaries as supportive companions to assist your hero on their adventures. In Diablo 4, this is again possible with the expansion “Vessel of Hatred”.
In the trailer, you can see your new best friends in Diablo 4:
These mercenaries you can hire
What mercenaries are available? In Diablo 4, you have four different mercenaries at your disposal:
- Subo – Drunken Archer: Subo is an archer from the mountains and now a bounty hunter. He stays out of the combat and rains arrows down on the monster hordes. The bounty hunter marks targets – and when you kill them, you gain advantages such as reduced cooldowns on skills.
- Aldkin – Cursed Child: The boy with the goat horns in the image is the “Cursed Child.” Aldkin is a half-demon and possesses the ability of metamorphosis. He can transform into a powerful demon that fights by your side.
- Varyana – Berserker Scythe: Varyana is a former cannibal and butcher. The mercenary wields her melee weapons, which are her butchering instruments. She has a “massacre counter” – the longer she kills in a row, the stronger it gets.
- Raheir – Shield Bearer: The barbarian with the large shield is the shield bearer of the group. He blocks attacks and protects you from the monster hordes.
What about the two missing mercenaries? According to a leak (via Buffed), there are two more mercenaries that have been found in the code. However, they are not on the image shared by Blizzard.
- Scholar: The Scholar could be another ranged mage or healer who supports you in battle.
- Maiden and Mongrel: The name could translate to virgin and mutt in English. Whether this is a mercenary duo or a character with two forms like a shapeshifter is not yet clear.
Mercenaries have their own hideout and can trade
What should one know about the mercenaries in Diablo 4? The mercenaries in Diablo 4 have their own camp, which has a waypoint. You can even mark it as a favorite. You unlock your new companions in the main quest of “Vessel of Hatred.” Each of the four mercenaries is unique and has its own skill tree and quest line.
You can customize your companions so they take on a supportive or combat-oriented role – or both. The mercenaries collect “rapport” when they accompany you. Rapport allows you to trade with the mercenaries and receive powerful loot.
You also have the option to choose a main ally and another mercenary as reinforcement. Reinforcements appear in battles and support you with a skill. Triggering the action is also called an “opportunity.”
With the release of the new expansion for the game, the mercenaries will be added. The new expansion “Vessel of Hatred” for Diablo 4 introduces not only new companions to the game but also runes.
