In the action RPG Diablo 4, it’s all about looting and leveling up. With the new Season 8, creating and leveling a new character in Diablo 4 comes into play. As for leveling, there are various ways for you to collect XP to reach the max level of 60. We list tips and builds for that in our guide.
Level Up Quickly in Season 8: The Hell Flows Are the Best
How do I level up the fastest in Season 8? The Hell Flows are still a good way to level up quickly in Season 8 due to their monster density. Since the adjustments in Season 4, the Hell Flows have become significantly tougher, but they are also much more rewarding. You’ll also get strong loot, materials, and gold there.
In the Hell Flows, you can level up well starting from level 1, as the monster density there is simply higher than in the open world. If you’re playing in a group, you should let each other know as soon as one player’s threat meter in the Hell Flow is full. Because then, monsters will overwhelm you, which you can farm together.
Additionally, there are bounty tasks for the Whispering Tree in the zones, allowing you to receive even more loot and XP. Since Season 8, the Ravens of the Tree are also present in all major cities. Previously, they spawned in the “Witch Flows” in Season 7 and quickly became a popular feature. If you dismantle loot in the meantime, you can also exchange your gifts for Whispering chests there.
What activities also yield good XP? Aside from the Hell Flows, you should farm the outposts in Sanctuary, as they also give you a good chunk of XP and progress in your regional progress. On top of that, there are dungeons that hide behind outposts. One example is the Shifting City.
What about the campaign? You can also level up quickly with the “Vessel of Hatred” campaign. If you have it ahead of you or want to experience it once more, you can gather some levels there.
If you are the owner of a “Vessel of Hatred” expansion edition, the Under City of Kurast is also a great activity for leveling. The Under City of Kurast is a timed assault dungeon with multiple phases where you can level and loot. With so-called tributes, you can farm even better.

Quickly Through the Campaign: Tips and Tricks
How should I proceed while leveling? Don’t get distracted and go straight through the campaign. Pay attention to the following hints:
- Don’t do unnecessary side quests or dungeons during this time
- But: Complete the class quest as soon as you receive it if you haven’t done so already. Once you have done this, you will have access to your class mechanic as soon as you reach the necessary level.
- Use elixirs for 8% more XP starting at level 10 – regularly craft new, “cheap” elixirs
- Play in co-op: 5% more XP near other players / 10% with group members
- Get your mount with the quest “Donan’s Favor” right after Act 3
- Focus more on defense at the beginning
- Unlock regional reputation level 1 in each region for more XP and a skill point. Level 2 gives you more potion capacity – helpful when you often lose a lot of health
- Use the stat “Movement Speed” or an elixir that makes you or your attack speed faster. More speed = faster leveling
- Use level builds so you don’t have to think too much
Once you have completed the story, it’s really time for grinding – you don’t need to repeat the campaign with your next character.
Leveling Quickly in Endgame
With Season 6 and the Vessel of Hatred expansion, the function of various endgame activities has changed:
- In the Pit, you now level your glyphs. You also unlock new difficulty levels that have replaced the old, often criticized world levels.
- In Nightmare Dungeons, you receive important crafting materials.
How do I level up the fastest in the endgame? The Pit is the best option to farm XP in the endgame. There, you have the opportunity to continuously increase the level, which offers you a greater challenge at the same time. Another good option is the Hell Hordes, where you receive not only XP but also loot.
In general, the higher the difficulty level you are playing on, the more XP you receive. So once you feel strong enough, you should increase the level to progress further in the endgame. You can adjust the level at the large statues in Kyovashad and Cerrigar. Moreover, you unlock up to 300 Paragon levels after reaching the max level of 60.
Season 7 also introduced the armor chamber, allowing you to save and switch your builds. This especially helps you if you use different builds for various activities in the endgame of Diablo 4.
More Tips for Leveling
What else should I know about leveling? There are a few more tips and details about the level system that you should keep in mind:
- At higher difficulty levels, there is more experience, as XP has also been significantly increased. Once you feel confident and don’t die as often, it is advisable to switch to a higher level:
- Hard: 75% more XP and gold
- Expert: 125% more XP and gold
- Penitent: 175% more XP and gold
- Torment 1: 300% more XP and gold
- Torment 2: 400% more XP and gold
- Torment 3: 500% more XP and gold
- Torment 4: 600% more XP and gold
- Complete the seasonal quest to advance your reputation on the reputation board and collect rewards.
- Use the new boss powers to increase your damage.
- Equip your loot pet so it can quietly collect gold and materials for you
- If you want to progress quickly, pay little attention to your equipment until about level 40 and spend as little time in towns as possible. Just take the gear with the highest item level, dismantle the rest
- Legendaries and uniques are automatically sent to your chest (if there’s space) – you can leave them behind and save time and inventory space
- The higher you set the difficulty level, the more XP the monsters give. Try out the levels, revert if the fights take too long
- Stand next to the campfire during Legion events while waiting for the start – they give you an XP bonus
- Use the Smoldering Ash from the seasonal journey for a boost to the XP from killed monsters
- Elite enemies give more XP than normal monsters
- In groups, you might also tackle enemies, mobs, and dungeons at higher levels to farm XP
- World bosses can be quite tough at the beginning and take too long, so you can ignore them for leveling for now
- At higher levels, you should take on world bosses again to farm materials
