For a few days now, rumors have been circulating about a possible Diablo 4. What does Blizzard itself say about this?
For almost a week, a story has been circulating through the gaming press that everyone is gradually picking up: Blizzard has posted a job advertisement, looking for an “Art Director” for a “not yet announced project.” Among other things, the person who gets this job should have drawn for video games for 10 years, held a leading position for 5 years, and also possess the management skills to keep a large team together.
Moreover, the ideal candidate should be well-acquainted with the Diablo franchise. The job is also directly related to the Diablo franchise.
What could this be for? What Diablo projects are conceivable?
The more mundane options of what this could be for would be new Diablo heroes for Heroes of the Storm, a few Diablo cards for Hearthstone, or even a standalone Diablo card game, as Hearthstone is performing so profitably. None of this would be incredibly exciting. It likely wouldn’t require a large team, but job advertisements are usually a bit “overdimensioned.” After all, it’s Blizzard; they can afford this and use the Art Director for other purposes after they’ve dealt with what’s required.
A second expansion for Diablo 3 after “Reaper of Souls” should actually be far enough along by now that a new Art Director isn’t needed for it. Although the expansion has not yet been announced, many expect it to come soon. After all, Diablo 3 is also a hit.
But the most attractive possibility is, of course, a successor, a Diablo 4.

What does Blizzard say about these rumors? They reached out to a US magazine and said: We are constantly developing new ideas, working on various projects. But at this point, we have nothing to announce yet.
Mein MMO thinks: Objectively speaking. Of course, the franchise will continue – sooner or later. Most likely, an announcement about the second expansion for Diablo 3 will come sooner or later. They should be far enough along that they can present something soon. In that case, an Art Director would have more organizational tasks rather than conceptual ones.
Such a job advertisement is more of a strategic nature. In particular, the Art Director often works on things that become a reality years later. The original Art Director for Diablo 3, Brian Morrisroe, left Blizzard 7 years ago (4 years before it was released), and his style is still being followed today. No one should get nervous and hold their breath just because there’s a “not yet announced project” in play.
