A special reward for Diablo 4 can only be obtained if you defeat the world boss Ashava at level 20 in the server slam. This is causing problems for many players. An obvious trick is often overlooked but can help you immensely.
How to defeat Ashava more easily: Set the game to World Tier 1. During the server slam, there are currently 2 difficulties to choose from, affecting the entire world. Tier 1 is the “normal” difficulty and Tier 2 is a bit harder.
However, the maximum level in this test is only level 20 instead of 25 as before, which makes Ashava significantly harder. Many players, myself included, are used to playing directly on Tier 2 and often forget this. If you want to secure all rewards from the server slam, make sure to change the world tier:
- either visit the statue in Kyovashad
- or change the world tier in the character selection
Even the Associate Game Director Joe Piepiora gives a hint on Twitter and states that there are 2 difficulties – and these affect Ashava.
By the way: If you are not in a group, you should definitely avoid using the town portal during the fight. Otherwise, you will likely return to a different phase and face another boss battle.
When can I fight Ashava again? Until the end of the server slam, you have 3 more opportunities to defeat Ashava:
- 12:00 PM
- 3:00 PM
- 6:00 PM
At 9:00 PM the test will then end. In our overview, you will find all spawns, the location, and tricks for the fight against Ashava. Remember that you must be level 20 to secure the reward.

The difficulty in the server slam is a good deal higher than in the previous tests. This is not only due to the 5 levels less (Ashava is intended for level 25), but also to some nerfs. The necromancer, for example, has suddenly become quite weak as the previously strongest class.
Players are therefore discussing on Twitter and Reddit that World Tier 2 is actually not sensible at all. Aside from tougher opponents, there is no benefit. It would only make sense if you already have good gear – which also drops less frequently.
Generally, though, the higher difficulty level is well received. Players are happy to have a challenge again. Only the class balancing is still not quite where it should be. However, this will probably only stabilize after release.
