In Diablo 4 a winter event has started, where you can secure hefty rewards. To do this, you must defeat millions of treasure goblins – but players are now asking where they should all be. The community event is not particularly well received.
What kind of event is it? Since December 17, the “Sledding into Hell” event has been running, where numerous treasure goblins are supposed to spawn in Sanctuary. If you slaughter enough of them, you can expect all sorts of rewards – including cosmetics and finally a “Magnificent Spark,” with which you can craft Mythic Uniques.
The announcement was well received by many players. Some hoped that the event is “a test run for more community events in the future”. However, a day later, the mood turns, and the event receives significant criticism. The community wonders whether the announced content has even made it into the game.
In a forum post, community manager Lyricana writes that a hotfix has been released to address several issues related to the “Sledding into Hell” event:
– A problem was fixed where killing certain treasure goblins did not contribute to the progress of the “Treasure Goblin Nemesis” challenge.
– The number of goblin spawns during the “Sledding into Hell” event was increased.
– Various improvements to server performance and stability.

What is being criticized? Basically everything. The winter event was supposed to ensure that numerous treasure goblins spawn all over Sanctuary. However, that is not the case. On Reddit, players ask where all the goblins are supposed to be. Some note that the “hotspot” is in Nahantu – the area that you can only enter if you own a copy of the DLC “Vessel of Hatred”.
The goal is to slaughter millions of treasure goblins to unlock milestones that bring players rewards. Among the rewards are ancestral items, cosmetics, and finally a “Magnificent Spark.” In this regard, the community criticizes that there is no counter in the game at all. Thus, you cannot see the progress and do not know what milestone you have already achieved – or will achieve soon.
In a post on Reddit, PolkSDA summarizes the problem as follows:
This holiday event is useless. No treasure bags from the goblins. No increased goblin frequency that I could detect. Community progress WITHOUT any counter, bar, or progress display to make the community’s progress toward the reward levels visible or convey a sense of progress.
Some players express surprise in the comments. jaspsev writes: “Is there an event? I was online for an hour and didn’t notice anything.” Others ask if the content might just not be live yet. However, players point to the buff in the game that indicates the treasure goblin event.
Some individual MeinMMO users also express criticism. In the article announcing the event, Walez writes that the event “irritates” him. It is not evident that a “Christmas” event is taking place. Occasionally a few treasure goblins spawn, but there is no display of how many have already been slaughtered. “A Christmas theme, e.g. in Kyovashad, is completely absent,” he writes in the comment.
