A feature has been missing in Diablo for years. In the community, it has already become a meme after the servers had significant issues over the weekend.
What is still relevant after 11 years? Over the weekend, a post appeared on Reddit about Diablo 4 titled “I posted this 11 years ago and sadly it is still relevant.” The post consists of an image (see cover image) and the text:
“I can’t wait for the servers to be online again. So I can play the single player.”
The post collected nearly 2,000 comments (via reddit.com). What does the community say about this and why is it so important?
“Give people an offline mode”
Why is this important? Many players play Diablo 4 by themselves. They create characters and progress through the story at a pace that suits them best. In doing so, they place the most importance on immersing themselves in the dark story of Sanctuary and participating in it.
However, this experience is interrupted when the servers are offline. Even though you just want to play the campaign for yourself, you are reliant on being online. At this point, players wish for the option of an offline mode. This way, one could at least play the campaign at any time, even if it means running around the world without friends or other players.
Right now, shortly after the release of Diablo 4, this is a major wish. When Blizzard struggled with DDoS issues over the weekend, the topic came up again. Eleven years ago, the image at the launch of Diablo 3 with its server issues was already relevant and shared in exactly that form by user regisfrost.
This is what the community says: Many users are involved in the comments of the thread and explain why an offline mode would be important for them.
- “Give people an offline mode! I don’t need PvP, I’m just trying to level and get gear like most other non-pro players,” writes theklf and gets a lot of support with nearly 500 upvotes.
- User Gatekeeper_Zuul writes, “That’s exactly why I prefer that this type of game focuses on single-player and offers the option for a shared world. Having to be online all the time just to play the game is frustrating.”
