Recently, players were able to test the new Season 5 of Diablo 4 on the PTR. Experts are now commenting on the state of the Sorcerer class, stating: The class can be really strong, but a lot has to change for that.
The PTR (Public Test Realm) for Season 5 in Diablo 4 has ended and various experts are now commenting on the strongest classes, new items, and potential powerful builds. According to Diablo expert “Rob2628”, the Sorcerer class looks “sad” here. Other players also noticed on the PTR that Sorceresses are even weaker than before – despite buffs.
Rob2628 is known for his OP builds. With one of them, he dealt over 1 billion damage in Zirs slaughterhouse and made Druids top-tier.
What is the weakest class? In a YouTube video from July 3rd, Rob provides his insights and refers to a recording from the “Diablo 4” content creator “Perra Gaming”. He summarizes the state of the Sorcerer class in Season 5 after the PTR. He says: “The Sorcerer will be the best class in Season 5, but only if all other classes are removed from the game. Because this class is just terrible.”
Rob comments that he can feel the pain of the Sorcerers since this has been a recurring topic in his community. After the PTR, he created a tier list – the strongest Sorcerer build, Fire Blitz Sorcerer, only appears in the A-tier. Currently, according to Rob, Sorcerers in Season 5 have no builds in the upper tiers, meaning S or S+.
He played the Sorcerer in the beta of Diablo 4, which had been his second favorite class at the time. Now, however, the class needs a lot of help. Current changes are too little.
Important Skills are Simply Useless
What needs to change? A major issue that needs to change, according to Rob, is the many caps in Diablo 4, meaning the upper limits for certain stats. Only in Season 4, did a cap for armor come into play. The central passive skills of the Sorcerers are also a problem. They do not scale with better gear and are therefore almost useless, notes “Perra Gaming” in the video.
To make Sorcerers strong, the experts believe the following changes need to be made:
- Overhaul of caps to avoid them restricting not only certain stats but also the fun of playing. Some caps are necessary; too many limit diversity. Additionally, caps, according to Rob, cause many players to use the same builds. He prefers to see “soft caps” that influence the stats.
- The central passive skills of the Sorcerers also need an overhaul, according to Rob, to simply make them stronger and more useful. They are “cool, but just weak,” notes “Perra Gaming”. Essentially, the developers should buff all central passive skills, such as “Vyr’s Mastery”, Rob adds.
- The legendary nodes in the Paragon boards should not have caps, according to the experts. That is “insanely boring”. Moreover, the nodes are too specific. Hunters also use various elements like poison and ice, which is better resolved in their Paragon board with appropriate nodes.
Additionally, according to Rob, Sorcerers often seem to have the problem that they simply cannot kill bosses. They deal the most damage when enemies suffer from crowd-control effects or are “staggered” (knocked down). The longer a fight lasts, the harder it is to “stagger” bosses and deal significant damage.
Many deficits in the builds can, according to Rob, be traced back to the central passive skills, where he sees the greatest need for revision. With the changes, he believes that all Sorcerer builds could move up at least one tier on the tier lists. Whether there will be any changes to the skills in Season 5 is unclear. However, with the first expansion for Diablo 4, “Vessel of Hatred,” new skills, legendary glyphs, and Paragon boards are expected to come into play for all classes: Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred: Everything about the release, pre-orders, and beta of the first DLC
