The Goody Bag for Blizzcon2016 raises hopes for a soon-to-be-announced Diablo 3 expansion or even Diablo 4?
A few days ago, the first people from Blizzard received a Goody Bag for this year’s Blizzcon. This bag contains many cool items that are meant to increase the hype for the new announcements from Blizzard. Along with a drinking mug or an inflatable hammer from Overwatch’s Reinhardt, this bag also includes a small pouch with dice. These dice have sparked much speculation about Diablo 4.
Diablo 4? Typo or Intent?
In the Diablo 3 pouch, there are several dice that can be used, for example, to play Dungeons and Dragons. Among others, there is a 20-sided die and a die that resembles a pyramid and has 4 sides. So that one doesn’t have to always say “Can you please pass me the 20-sided die?” in German, it is usually shortened to W 20 (Würfel mit 20 Seiten). In English, it’s referred to as “D 20” (Dice = dice). We already mentioned the 4-sided die, which is then abbreviated in German as W 4 or in English as D 4 – This abbreviation is already known from Diablo 2 and Diablo 3.
You can already tell that we are in a very hypothetical conspiracy theory and that we are far from official statements. However, it gets really interesting now (At least if you like conspiracy theories). A simple D 4 does not necessarily indicate Diablo 4; it could also just be a coincidence. If there weren’t this typo…
The 4-sided die cannot be used because it is printed with the numbers 1-1-4 on 3 faces, instead of 1-1-1. Breaking down the number into 11 4 gets us closer to the “target” of this theory.
In America, dates are written differently than they are here. 11.04.2016 in America corresponds to November 4, 2016. And now guess what important event happens in the world on this day? On this day, Blizzcon 2016 begins.
It is conceivable that Blizzard will present the new expansion of the hack and slash Diablo at this year’s Blizzcon – among other things, Diablo is also celebrating its 20th anniversary this year (Diablo 1 was released on December 31, 1996, in North America).
