Actually, Season 2 is a big success for Diablo 4 according to initial feedback – or at least a significant improvement over Season 1. However, one thing is increasingly bothering players. Blizzard has indeed improved the controversial upgrade system, but at the same time it has made it worse.
This is how Season 2 is received:
- Since October 17, Season 2 has been live and brought several improvements. It is now easier to acquire the best items, finding items is no longer as exhausting.
- At the same time, buffs and the vampiric powers of the Season have enabled new builds that are now among the strongest. theMIKster here on MeinMMO says: ‘I had as much fun with Diablo 3 last time.’
- Especially that now each class has multiple ways to be strong is well received. Players say: OP builds are the right way, it must stay this way.
What annoys the players: One of the significant changes of the season or the accompanying patches concerns the upgrade system and reroll system. If you wanted to perfect a good item, you usually had to reroll the stats at the occultist.
This previously cost a lot of gold, and the cost increased with each attempt. So much that players eventually reached hundreds of millions just for a new (and usually disappointing) roll attempt for better stats.
Now, with Season 2, the gold problem has practically been eliminated. You receive more gold from many sources; chests in hell tides or from trees now generously provide enough money to secure your wealth.
However, there is now a new restriction: for rerolling, you need Forgotten Souls. However, it seems that there are fewer of them, and only available at specific times.

In a large thread on Reddit, players discuss what disadvantages the new system brings. The problem is less the material costs themselves, but the fact that these materials are not always available.
Forgotten Souls and Devil’s Roses, which you need for rerolling, are reliably only available in hell tides. However, these only appear at specific times. Those who have to work or do not always have time may, with some bad luck, rarely or not at all be able to participate in the tides. Moreover, you also need the souls to upgrade items.
Consequently, while it is now de facto ‘easier’ to get the desired equipment, it is also less accessible. Especially since, according to other users, there are also significantly fewer souls: Hawkwise93 writes that he got just 35 souls in a full hour with 7 chests. You need 2 souls and 3 roses per reroll.
Players still admit that Season 2 does a lot of things right. This is just one of a few points that can be criticized: ‘That’s the only L I’ve found in the whole patch, but it’s a big one. I’m not going into the hell tide mines to reroll my gear.’
Users say that this cannot be Blizzard’s intention to make the feature so inaccessible. It will probably still be adjusted. It at least led to fewer gold sellers – but the need for materials has apparently revived an age-old problem:
