The viewer numbers of Diablo 4 on Twitch have dropped so hard that it’s hardly findable in the overview. Expert Maurice Weber looks into what problems the game currently has and which areas it should work on.
With the question “Is Diablo 4 completely crashing right now?” the Diablo expert Maurice Weber from GameStar analyzes the state of the game. Because alone on Twitch, the game has plummeted. But the criticism surrounding Season 1 and the game’s endgame is harsh as well.
We show you how Maurice assesses the situation.
Diablo 4 has problems with core content
The Twitch numbers: When Diablo 4 was released in June of this year, there were an average of over 240,000 viewers. The peak on release day was 589,269 average viewers. By the end of August, there were just over 2,000 average viewers.
The graph from Sullygnome clearly shows the decline:

What are the problems with Diablo 4? Maurice explains that many players feel that in Season 1 the excitement has worn off quite quickly. And this, although they wanted to polish and improve upon the partly strong Seasons from Diablo 3. But instead, players are now primarily criticizing the endgame. “At some point between level 70 and 80, the game just drops off a cliff. From then on, you have the feeling ‘My character hardly changes anymore'”, explains the expert.
Time pressure could be a possible cause of the problems, which the developers faced before the release day to be ready in time for launch.
We’ll embed the complete video with Maurice here:
While with Season 2 of Diablo 4 exciting changes are on the way that go in the right direction. However, season changes alone probably won’t be enough, because the game “suffers from the basic things we do in an action RPG”: Looting and running dungeons.
- With loot, there is the problem that there are too many affixes, which makes searching the loot for something interesting a chore
- Affixes are partly “nonsense” like “More cold damage”, “More damage with frost spells”, “More damage against chilled enemies”, “More damage against frozen enemies”, etc.
- The crafting system is limited and expensive
- Dungeons are not flowing enough and are not fun
What can Diablo 4 do better? Maurice would wish for an endless horde mode or an endless dungeon or just both. Where you can “slaughter without interruption”. Because in dungeons where you have to keep running back to loot things like keys, it takes the momentum out of the gameplay.
He says that the game is not fundamentally bad.
- The feeling of combat is powerful and fun
- The atmosphere is dark and really well done
- The campaign had many great moments
But it’s not where it should be yet. An addon could help with the fundamental problems and finally elevate Diablo 4 to the level it should be on.
Do you agree with Maurice?
