With Vessel of Hatred, Blizzard brings a new area to Diablo 4, the jungle of Nahantu. This area around Kurast is similar to the region you traveled in Act 3 of Diablo 2. Players are now wondering if Blizzard will bring back some of the most hated enemies from Diablo – and would even be happy about it.
What kind of enemies are they?
- Stygian dolls are among the worst enemies in Diablo.
- These are small, skeleton-like fetishes. The stygian dolls can actually be found in Act 3 of Diablo 2 – which takes place in Kurast.
- Kurast is exactly the area that is returning with Vessel of Hatred. Here you will find all the information about the new expansion.
Here’s why the dolls are so nasty: These enemies are considered some of the worst because they appear in huge groups and explode upon death. They are the nemesis of many players and are responsible for a ton of hardcore characters’ demise.
In the community, they are sometimes considered tougher opponents than the bosses Baal and Diablo themselves, for several reasons:
- They are faster than other enemies and usually faster than the player.
- Due to their small size, it is hard to hit them with targeted attacks.
- The dolls explode upon death, which means melee fighters can hardly fight them safely.
In the past, mercenaries were a popular way to deal with the dolls – a feature that returns with Vessel of Hatred. With the expansion, Blizzard has the opportunity to reinvent this type of enemy and integrate it into the game seamlessly.
For some, it would be a sadistic endeavor. Others – and indeed quite a few players – would celebrate it.
Blizzard recently released the intro cinematic for Vessel of Hatred. It looks nasty:

Since the announcement of the release date for Vessel of Hatred and the brief introduction of the new class Spiritborn, many fans have been discussing the upcoming content on social media.
Especially the fetishes have already received several threads dedicated to them on Reddit. In one of these threads, the creator states: “Please, Blizzard, bring these little bastards to the expansion!” (via Reddit) He presents various versions of the beasts:
- the stygian dolls described above
- various “normal” fetishes with knives and blowguns
- fetish shamans that can spit fire and resurrect their companions
The enemies that are usually so hated seem to be fondly remembered by veterans. There are numerous players who would be excited to see the stygian dolls and other fetishes return in Vessel of Hatred. The jungle itself was worse anyway, which was already designed as a labyrinth with barely visible exits.
Other users are already expressing their fears if it should really happen that fetishes return. Comments such as: “Okay, calm down, Satan,” or: “I didn’t know Mephisto has a Reddit account.” are being made.
The fetishes and especially the stygian dolls have given many players nightmares. However, you should be cautious with your wishes for what Diablo 4 should receive next. Blizzard has fulfilled several wishes recently: New patch brings companions exactly as fans have wanted them since release.
