How many hours does the campaign of Diablo 4 take, what is the max level, and what do we know about Paragon levels? Joe Shely from Blizzard has now commented on these topics.
Where does the information come from? The Director of Diablo 4, Joe Shely, spoke in an interview with Gamespot about the length of the campaign and endgame content. Just recently, Blizzard showcased more information about the game during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase.
It is now clear how many hours you should roughly plan for playing through the story and at what level you will hit the cap.
How many hours does the campaign take?
This is what Shely says: In general, the Director spoke about the many freedoms players will have in Diablo IV. You can travel to various points in the world and choose what to do there. If you want to follow the campaign, you should plan about 35 hours for it.
“This is a 35-hour experience that is filled with stories and characters that are truly human and can be connected with on an emotional level. We have really worked hard on the campaign of Diablo 4 and are very proud of how it has developed,” explains Shely.
After completing the campaign, you should have reached around level 45.
How long do stories take in other Diablo games? In Diablo 3, you need about 20 hours to play through the story once. In Diablo 2, it is similarly long. Keep in mind that these hour estimates are based on starting as a new player who does not know the quests yet. An experienced player in Diablo 3 can complete the story in significantly fewer hours.

What is the max level?
The level cap in Diablo 4 is level 100. Blizzard also confirmed this in the mentioned interview with Gamespot.
After reaching the maximum level, you unlock various endgame content. This includes the Nightmare Dungeons and also the new Bounty system “Tree of Whispers”. Additionally, there are the known World Difficulties, which allow you to adjust the environment to suit the strength of your character.

The Paragon System
This is known: In the interview, Shely also talks about the Paragon system. Players are already familiar with it from Diablo 3 and Diablo Immortal. However, the system in D4 differs significantly from that of D3. While in the older title you could simply allocate points to various aspects like critical hit chance, attack speed, vitality, or movement speed, the new system is somewhat like a chessboard – The Paragon Board.
“Imagine it like a chessboard. It’s much more detailed than that, but for simplicity, let’s say a chessboard. And you have to find your way by unlocking squares as you move across the board. Each of the fields could grant +5 strength, another ability, or something else that improves your skills. And you can click these different boards together and carve your own path.”
Another difference in the Paragon Board of Diablo 4 is that the system is limited. This is meant to encourage players to distribute their Paragon points more intentionally and not to become infinitely powerful through grinding.
