In Diablo 4, there is a major problem for the hardest of all players: disconnects in hardcore mode. Sudden crashes can lead to players losing their carefully nurtured and cared-for characters forever. Blizzard has now mentioned how they will address the issue. Additionally, 2 bugs are plaguing hardcore players.
This is the worst thing that can happen in Diablo 4: The disconnect in hardcore mode is the absolute nightmare for every player. The screen freezes, panic rises, you get kicked from the game, and when you log back in, your hardcore character is dead. Hundreds of hours of gameplay filled with sweat, joy, and tears have gone forever into the virtual void.
This is the situation:
- The hardcore mode is characterized by the fact that every second counts. There is no respawn. If you die once, your character is dead, and you can delete it. There is no mercy. Right now, a death is particularly bitter because there is a race to reach the Lilith statue.
- Currently, hardcore players in Diablo 4 are dying from 2 bugs: during teleportation and when they should be immune. The classic death from disconnection is the third major source of frustration and anger.
- The good news: Blizzard announces it will address the problems. The catch: it will still take some time.
Blizzard celebrates deaths in hardcore mode, but not these deaths
Does that happen? Yes, the disconnect death is prominent in Diablo 4 again. Even the first player who reached level 100 in hardcore mode has fallen victim to it.
The video of his death by disconnect has now been seen by over 385,000 people on Twitch:
Every death in hardcore mode is tragic, not just due to technical errors, but also due to personal mistakes:
- A German Twitch streamer suffered a bad fate.
- Blizzard is now celebrating these deaths with the help of Megan Fox.
2 bugs additionally annoy in Diablo 4, causing deaths
Are there more problems? Yes, in addition to the disconnection, two bugs in hardcore mode are causing frustrating deaths. Twitch streamer Quin69 died after 172 hours with his hero in a loading screen.
He had completed the dungeon and teleported out of it, but crashed during the process, and when he logged back in, he was dead.
The particularly harsh part: He loses his character after safely teleporting out of the map – his colleague Kripparian explains the situation.
What does Blizzard plan to do about it? In a developer stream on June 17, the devs explained. There are 2 bugs:
- The teleport bug, which causes players to die
- A second bug, where players die when they should actually be immune
Game Director Joey Shely said:
We are looking into both cases, and as soon as we have identified the root of the problems, we will address the issues with fixes.
“Escape” item is to be used automatically on disconnects
What about disconnects? They cannot be resolved by a bug fix. But Blizzard has a plan.
In hardcore mode, there is a rare item, “Scrolls of Escape.” This is a sort of “Get out of jail free” card: it teleports players to safety. Players must consciously use it to escape.
Shelby says Blizzard’s plan is that the item will be used automatically as soon as the servers register a disconnect.
However, it is not “foolproof”; it requires a very complex system to determine when players are truly experiencing a disconnect. Because the item remains rare, players also have no way to exploit the system by simply unplugging the internet cable.
What is the catch? It will still take until Season 2 before the automatic use comes. The world remains dangerous.
However, the two bugs that are so annoying could be resolved sooner.
