In Diablo 4, the introduction of leaderboards was expected in Season 3, aimed at expanding the endgame with additional content. However, after a date for the feature was announced, the developers walked back their statements.
- Leaderboards are the best lists in Diablo 4. They are associated with a dungeon, the Gauntlet, which changes weekly. Here you can climb the leaderboard and even score rewards.
- In a livestream the developers spoke about the leaderboards on January 18 and stated that they are expected to come a few weeks after Season 3 begins.
- Diablo head Rod Fergusson talked in the Xbox podcast about the release of the leaderboards. They were supposed to arrive in Diablo 4 with a patch on February 13, 2024.
After the announcement was picked up on social media, Rod Fergusson himself said on X on the evening of February 5 that the team decided to take more time and postpone the leaderboards.
Today, on February 6, the “Lunar Awakening” event starts in Diablo 4:
What does the developer say about the leaderboards? In a post from February 5, Rod Fergusson commented on the change of plans for the leaderboards on X:
It’s great to see the excitement about the Gauntlet and the leaderboards. We are still on track for Season 3, but we have decided to take a little more time to polish a few things, so it won’t be released on February 13, as I mentioned in a recent podcast.
We will share more details and the new date soon.
“There is a lack of engaging endgame”
The post was picked up on X and commented on. Some players there seem disappointed, as they apparently see the leaderboards and the associated dungeon as a welcome change for the endgame.
This is what the community says about it: Streamer and content creator Rob2628 shared Rod Fergusson’s post and wrote that he had already been disappointed that the leaderboards did not launch directly with Season 3 in Diablo 4. “This has ruined all the hype,” he writes on X.
In his opinion, players are running out of things to do in Diablo 4, “as there is a lack of engaging endgame.” He argues that “spending all day just killing Duriel or Malphas for a chance at an Uber-Unique is not THE endgame for many. Some type of challenging content would be great!”
A user comments that the developers are not doing themselves any favors. For most casual players, there is nothing to do in Sanctuary (via X).
“Most players probably aren’t ready yet anyway”
Are there also opposing opinions? Other players note that it isn’t so bad if the leaderboards come later. One user writes on X that he is level 83 and plays a lot, “so a few extra days are not a big deal.”
Another user writes on X: “Most players probably aren’t ready for the Gauntlet in this season anyway.”
On February 5, we reported about the planned release of the leaderboards and the Gauntlets for Season 3 in Diablo 4. In the comments section, “Compadre” notes that the season should at least run for a month before the leaderboards are integrated. “If you bring it two weeks after the season starts, you will only have streamer presence in the first weeks, just like in Sanctuary of Zires.”
A streamer and Diablo expert criticizes the slow pace. Everything happening in Season 3 of Diablo 4 is simply too sluggish or comes too late. The fact that the leaderboards will only arrive after the season begins takes a lot of the anticipation and joy out of trying to navigate the best lists. Nonetheless, he also praises Season 3: An expert on Diablo 4 praises Season 3, but one thing diminishes his desire to play
