The loot is an important topic in Diablo 4, and currently, players find that the best Legendaries do not drop often enough and too often in a weak variant. In Season 7, this should change as Blizzard adjusts the drops to ensure they are always the best possible.
Which items do not drop often enough? With Season 6, Blizzard revamped the “ancestral” items:
- According to the developers, ancestral items lost their uniqueness as they became “too common.” They should become powerful again.
- Ancestral items always drop with the highest item power of 800 starting from “Qual 1.” Only these items have large affixes (GA) – and always at least one. All other items have an item power of 750.
- However, the overhaul resulted in the ancestral items dropping in their best variant only rarely. A player defeated 2,400 bosses in Diablo 4 and listed the drops. The result: even the super-rare Mythic Uniques drop more frequently than the best GA items.
Another problem related to this is the legendary aspects. When you dismantle “ancestral” Legendaries, the aspects go into the Codex of Power, just like with other Legendaries. However, they can no longer improve, as strong ancestral items are needed for that.
Blizzard wants to revamp the ancestral items in Season 7, making adjustments to the items themselves as well as the drop rates. This should allow you to acquire strong loot faster – and be able to enjoy it.
Higher Drop Rate and the Best Aspect Version
This is how Blizzard plans to address the problem: In the “Campfire Chat” livestream on YouTube, Design Director Colin Finer explained on November 21 that the team was “a little too conservative” in adjusting the ancestral items. In Season 7, they will adjust the items once again:
- Ancestral items will have the highest value of the legendary aspect when they drop. Thus, players can always look forward to the drops because they will always receive the best version of the aspect.
- The drop rate of ancestral items will be “significantly increased” overall. They will not “rain from the sky,” Colin Finer notes, but there will be a noticeable increase across all Qual levels. This should enhance various activities in the game.
- Additionally, players will have the opportunity to craft random legendary amulets and rings with gemstone fragments. At the Qual levels, there is a chance that the items are “ancestral.”
What about “ancestral” Uniques? The unique aspect of “ancestral” Uniques is set to be linked to the number of large affixes (GA). Specifically, this means: The more GA a Unique has, the better the item overall. Colin Finer explains that it will be nearly impossible to obtain a 4GA item with a bad roll of the Unique Power. Game designer Charles Dunn adds that players will no longer need to worry about whether a 1GA item might actually be better than a 4GA item.
What does the community say about it? In a post on Reddit, users discuss the adjustments. Many note that they have already reached a high level, but are still unable to maximize many aspects. Arkayjiya writes that he has reached Paragon level 270 and one aspect is only level 16/21. “This change would be a blessing for me,” he writes.
Trunks252 also writes that he has played the Spiritborn for over 150 hours and still has not maximized a single aspect he uses. And Pulyx comments that he had already maximized all aspects at this point in the last season. For many players, these seem to be welcome changes.
When Season 7 will launch in Diablo 4 is still unclear. However, the developers have already announced that there will be another PTR (Public Test Realm) where you can check out the new features and adjustments.
