Blizzard accidentally gave away some of the rarest items in Diablo 4. Currently, there are no consequences for players who exploited this. However, that may not remain the case in the future, Blizzard reminds.
What items are these?
- The 6 “Uber Uniques” are the rarest items in Diablo 4. Only a tiny fraction of players have even one of them.
- With patch 1.0.4 from July 6, Blizzard enabled these items to finally also be included in the Hellfire chests.
- However, there was a bug: players could guaranteed to receive such a unique. After a hotfix, this is no longer possible.
What happens to the items? Nothing. At least for now. As community lead Adam Fletcher writes in the official forum, all players who received an Uber Unique in this way may keep it.
In total, only 142 players are said to have received such an item in the time between the patch and the hotfix. The players exploited a special mechanic:
- especially popular are the helmets Harlequin’s Crown and Andariel’s Visage, they are among the strongest items in the game
- classes like Sorceress and Barbarian cannot receive any other unique items in the helm slot
- thus, for these two classes, a drop of the Uber Uniques was guaranteed when one dropped
Fletcher writes that this was not intended and that the drop chances have now been fixed. However, the developers remind in a comment: if something like this happens again, Blizzard reserves the right to take action.

In the comment, it is stated shortly before that the items will not be deleted. This probably means that in a later case, exactly that would happen: Blizzard would take away the items you received through exploits.
Under what circumstances this happens, we cannot say. However, it is likely that the bug currently simply has too little impact for such a drastic step. Only 142 players have received an Uber Unique at all and Season 1 starts on July 20.
From then on, most progress of the “eternal” characters will no longer be relevant for many players. However, if such an exploit occurs in the season, the penalties will certainly be stricter.
Especially in later seasons, when it comes to reaching level 100 as quickly as possible and completing the hardest content, equal conditions must prevail.
