Season 5 has started in Diablo 4 with a bug. From the very beginning, you have unlocked recipes for the “Hardening” that you actually need to farm first. Blizzard is aware of this and is allowing it to remain as is.
On August 6, 2024, Season 5 started in Diablo 4, this time even with a preload, after this was criticized in Season 4. The release went largely smoothly. However, players noticed shortly after the start of the season that they had already unlocked some recipes for the crafting system “Hardening.” However, these need to be farmed first.
Hardening recipes were carried over from Season 4
What about the recipes? With the crafting system “Hardening” you imprint additional affixes on your items, in addition to those already existing. However, you can only select the recipes at the blacksmith that you have already collected. After the start of Season 5, players were surprised to find numerous recipes available to choose from. And this from the very beginning, without having found them.
There seem to be the recipes that you collected in Season 4 available in the selection. In our case, immediately after logging in, 42 out of 103 recipes were available in the Codex of Power:
What does Blizzard say about it? Blizzard acknowledges this and notes that this was not intended. They will not fix the bug, but you should not expect this to happen in every season.
In a post on X, Community Director Adam Fletcher writes:
We are aware of reports that new season characters inherit their hardening recipes from the season characters of the last season.
This was neither the original design nor the intent, so I would not expect this in future seasons, but we are letting it slide for Season 5.
In the comments, Fletcher notes that despite everything, there are still new hardening recipes to discover for all classes in Season 5.
“At least it’s a bug in our favor”
How does the community react? In the comments on X, “pacman” writes: “Wouldn’t it be cool if we didn’t have to grind for the hardening recipes every season? Can we just make this permanent?” In a thread on Reddit, “peterpan123x” points out that leveling up is made much easier this way. And “Demoted_Redux” says: “It should always be like this.”
The Diablo experts wudijo and Raxxanterax noticed the bug in their Twitch streams on August 6, 2024. Both mentioned that this is surely not intended. After it became clear that Blizzard is aware of it and will not change anything, Raxxanterax noted in the stream that the developers probably won’t revert the error because many players have already utilized the recipes for hardening. This would give them an advantage. Furthermore, the bug is to the players’ advantage, so one cannot be too upset about it.
However, Season 5 has fortunately not only brought bugs to Diablo 4 but also new content. There is an endgame activity, a reputation system, 15 uniques, and numerous new legendary aspects. The developers have also tweaked class balance and existing items in the game. In our overview, you can find all the information: Diablo 4 Season 5: Launch, theme, and preload
