Season 20 of Diablo 3 has been active for almost two months now. Normally, MeinMMO editor Patrick Freese quickly loses motivation after completing the seasonal journey. However, S20 has reignited his interest.
What is it about? The current Season 20 in Diablo 3 started for me on March 13. Since then, I’ve already spent several hours in the season, diving right in with a Whirlwind Barbarian.
My biggest motivation at the start was: To complete the seasonal journey and secure the cool Bat pet. I achieved this goal about a week after the season started.
After that, I didn’t have any major goals anymore. Just the usual: optimizing gear and climbing in the greater Nephalem rifts.
Normally, I lose motivation to continue playing about two weeks after the start of a season. This sentiment is often echoed in the community.
However, I recently created a new class, and I have to say: It’s really fun right now.
New Witch Doctor in Season 20 motivates me
What have I changed? In principle, I set my Barbarian aside and asked myself what I would still enjoy. Immediately, the new Witch Doctor set came to mind. It ranks at the top of the Tier List of Season 20 and has a lot of potential.
So, I created a character and embarked on the journey towards max level. With a trick, you can reach level 70 in just one minute – but I wanted to enjoy the leveling process more.
It was fun: Leveling the Witch Doctor brought me joy. I consistently received new legendary items. With their legendary bonuses, I adjusted the leveling method repeatedly and played different builds. Sometimes with pets, sometimes with dots. Zombies also had to be included on the way to level 70.
The real fun started for me when I gathered the first pieces for Mundunugu’s Regalia at level 70. It was a laborious process, but I knew from streams and videos how fun the playstyle of the set looks. The Spirit Barrage constantly fires at nearby enemies and makes everything explode. Awesome!
Suddenly, I had a new goal in mind: to unlock the six-piece bonus of the set. “From then on, the fun will be maximized,” I thought.
It took one evening until I had gathered the basic parts. And even though I don’t yet have all the gear for the strong build, Diablo 3 is currently a blast.

- I enjoy the fresh wind, moving away from the WW Barbarian
Of course: Creating a new class isn’t the newest idea in Diablo 3. However, choosing something that you haven’t played in a long time or never played at all is key for me.
This combination of new goals and an entirely different playstyle is important to me. I needed to see and hear something different from always just the Barbarian. And I can recommend this to you as well. With the new set, I’m back to enjoying grinding. I try out where the strengths and weaknesses lie and push myself into ever higher rifts.
If you’re stuck in Season 20 but really want to play: Why not grab a different class with a different playstyle? From melee to wizard or vice versa. It’s best to choose a build that you haven’t touched in a long time or do it like me: play one of the three new sets.
If you’re still missing a little incentive: Blizzard activated a Goblin Buff for the rest of the season.
How long the current Season 20 will last is unclear. The Blizzard team plans to announce a date about two weeks before the end. We at MeinMMO have already analyzed when an end of Season 20 and the start of Season 21 in Diablo 3 might be possible.
