With a new update for version 2.6.1, Blizzard targets programs like TurboHUD and bots in Diablo 3.
A short time before the start of Season 13 in Diablo 3, the developers released an update. The update does not affect the balance of the various classes. Instead, it addresses a larger problem with third-party programs. Blizzard made surprising changes in this area.
Diablo 3 Patch 2.6.1 – The end for bots and TurboHUD?
The new patch was released about two days ago for Diablo 3. As no patch notes were published, players asked in the forum what had changed in the game. Community manager Nevalistis explained that hotfixes for permanent fixes were made in the update, and background functions were changed. There were no gameplay changes through the update to Diablo 3.
However, with the changes to background functions, Blizzard has evidently struck gold. Now programs like TurboHUD and various bots no longer work.
What is TurboHUD? TurboHUD is a third-party program that displays additional information on your Diablo 3 screen. The functions of this software can be used to gain better vision on the minimap. This can create advantages in Diablo 3 that other users without this program do not have. Therefore, its use is controversial in the community.
How do HUDs and bots work? Game information such as health points, mana, position of enemies and your character, map patterns are stored in the RAM of your PC. Third-party programs read this information directly from the RAM and display it on your screen (HUD) or let bots react to it.
With the new update for version 2.6.1, Blizzard made it more difficult to read this information. They encrypted the memory locations with the important information in the RAM. Additionally, the location where this information is stored changes. Each time you restart Diablo 3, this information will be stored in a different location.
These changes have made reading this information much more difficult. However, this does not mean that it will become impossible, and bots or HUDs will never work again.
The developer of TurboHUD stated that fixing these issues is difficult and the chance of TurboHUD ever running again is slim.
This change could mean that at least at the start of Season 13, we will see significantly fewer bots in the leaderboards that take the fun away from fair players.
