Season 20 in Diablo 3 will start soon. The season theme for Patch 2.6.8 has already been introduced by the developers. It will significantly change Kanai’s Cube.
What is this season theme? Season 20 in Diablo 3 starts with the new Patch 2.6.8.
For some time now, Blizzard has been introducing a new theme with each new season to make that season unique.
In the past, there have been double Horadric cubes, more goblins, or most recently a crazy stackable buff that summoned the final boss at 1,000 stacks.
For Season 20, Blizzard has come up with a revamp of Kanai’s Cube. Well, this has been requested several times by the community as a season theme. Let’s just say, Blizzard will implement it for Season 20.
This way, you can assign each of the three slots in the cube a weapon, a piece of armor, or a piece of jewelry. In any order and quantity. So if you want, you can pack 3 weapons into the belt at the same time. Or 3 rings. Or 2 rings and one weapon, or … you get the idea.
You can find the changes from Patch 2.6.8 for Diablo 3, including 3 new sets, here.
How does the season theme “Forbidden Archives” affect gameplay?
Blizzard describes the buff as follows:
During Season 20, all slots in Kanai’s Cube can contain legendary properties of weapons, armor, or jewelry.
– This means you can select three armor properties, three weapon properties, three jewelry properties, or any combination from all categories.
– Items do not stack additively or multiplicatively with themselves (meaning you cannot stack multiple versions of the same property of an item).
– After the season ends and characters are transferred to the non-seasonal game, all currently active properties in Kanai’s Cube will be reset.

For players, this is a welcome change, as now you can enhance your favorite builds as you have always wanted.
- Previously, a Ring of the Zodiac didn’t fit into your build because another piece of jewelry was more important? That’s no longer a problem.
Why does this change all builds? Let’s take a closer look at the tier list of Season 19 in Diablo 3. There you will mostly find builds that need to decide on one of the best options within a category for Kanai’s Cube.
Some builds rely on a crucial weapon to work. Now, players can also add the furnace to their weapon to deal even more damage against elite enemies.
Do you already have a gear combination in mind that you want to test in Season 20?
Some of the armor items were chosen in Kanai’s Cube just because you had to fill the slot anyway. Another ring, an amulet, or a weapon can make these builds even stronger.
Conclusion: The new season theme will definitely impact many existing builds and change them. This could shake up the meta significantly. Additionally, it is expected that with the new options for assembling, further builds will rise to the top that previously could not compete in the higher ranks.
