The start of Season 28 with Patch 2.7.5 in Diablo 3 is approaching. We will show you the seasonal theme with a powerful altar, balance changes, starter sets, and what it’s all about with Archaic Ash.
What’s happening in Diablo 3? The start of Season 28 is just around the corner. With new content, this chapter lures players back into the hack and slash. The focus is on an altar where important damage and quality-of-life bonuses can be unlocked. However, the new season also brings other exciting content and balance changes.
Here in the overview, we show you everything you need to know about S28 in Diablo 3.
Season 28 – Start, Seasonal Theme, Starter Sets
When does Season 28 start? The season begins on February 24, 2023, at 5:00 PM German time. Usually, such a season is active for about 3 months. We expect an end in the last week of May or early June.
What is the seasonal theme? You can expect the ancient Altar of Rites. It’s something like a large skill tree, where you unlock special powers by using various materials.
The developers state:
With this seasonal theme, we aim to enhance the season journey for players by linking material goals with meaningful decisions. We wanted to celebrate the upcoming release of Diablo IV with a feature that emphasizes progress while also providing interesting details about Sanctuary. We hope you enjoy the Rites of Sanctuary as much as we do.
What starter sets are available? For reaching stages 2, 3, and 4 of the season journey, you will be rewarded with a “Haedrig’s Gift” each time. When you open it, you will receive a few set pieces of a specific set. If you complete stages 2, 3, and 4 and open all gifts with the same character, you will receive a complete class set. This is possible once during a season. In Season 28, you will receive the following starter sets through the season journey:
- Barbarian: Horde of the Ninety Savages
- Crusader: Aegis of Valor
- Demon Hunter: Gear of Terror
- Monk: Pattern of Justice
- Witch Doctor: Mundunugu’s Regalia
- Wizard: The Typhon’s Veil
- Necromancer: Masquerade of the Burning Carnival
Cosmetic rewards: Since Season 17, you can unlock two new and two old cosmetic rewards each season in Diablo 3. This time, they are the old rewards from Season 16 as well as the new rewards:
- The pet “Companion of Taennin the Tiny”
- Portrait “Primeval Hunter”
New feature Archaic Ash: With the new feature, Blizzard aims to simplify the process of obtaining Archaic items. The “Archaic Ash” feature will be activated with Patch 2.7.5. This way, you can recycle an Archaic item at the blacksmith and receive 55 Archaic Ashes in return.
There is now a new recipe for Archaic items in Kanai’s Cube. The recipe allows you:
- Any non-crafted legendary item can be upgraded to an Archaic item for 100 Archaic Ashes
Here, it must be noted that only one upgraded Archaic item can be worn at the same time, and the items do not retain the properties of the used legendary item. New affixes will be rolled for the upgraded items.
Season-specific achievements: These achievements change in each season. In Season 28, you have the choice of:
- Champion of Speed and Streamlined (Hardcore Mode) – complete a Nephalem Rift at Torment X with a character at max level within 2 minutes.
- Mineral Collection and Gotta Catch ‘Em All (Hardcore Mode) – upgrade three legendary gems to level 65.
- Boss Mode and A Class of Its Own (Hardcore Mode) – defeat the following bosses at Torment X with a character at max level within 20 minutes of starting the game.
- Cursed and Sewn Up! and Who would have thought? (Hardcore Mode) – kill at least 350 monsters during a cursed chest at level 70 on Torment X.
