What does the guide show you? Here we introduce how to quickly level your new seasonal character in Season 24 of Diablo 3 to the maximum level of 70. We are addressing experienced Diablo 3 players who have already gone through one or more seasons. Complete beginners who are just starting with this hack-and-slash should take their time leveling up and not rush.
Leveling Quickly in Season 24
What you need to know: Generally, very little has changed in leveling in Diablo 3. What’s new is that you can now equip companions better while leveling.
In the last seasons, the MeinMMO team had good experiences with the leveling method that includes the Challenge Rift. In combination with Kanai’s Cube, you receive strong bonuses early on.
We present you the method with and without the Challenge Rift here. If you have already completed your portal this week or simply don’t feel like it, skip the first part and read after the section about the Challenge Rift.

Starting with the Challenge Rift
Here’s how to get started: After starting Season 24 in Diablo 3, create a seasonal hero. Enter the game with this character and then exit back to the main menu.
Now, go to the game settings and click the option for the Challenge Rift on the left side. It is very important that you have selected your seasonal hero before entering the portal.
Note: This is only possible if you have completed a Greater Nephalem Rift in Diablo 3. If you haven’t done that with your account yet, skip this step.
What is it good for? The big reward for the Challenge Rift helps you start well into the new season. You receive the following for successfully completing the portal:
- Bounty materials (15 each)
- 35 Essence of Death
- 475 Blood Shards
- Crafting materials
- and 4.6 million gold
What comes after the portal: The first part of the preparation is complete. Now it’s about implementing this advantage in the game.
- Go back to the menu of Diablo 3
- Select the Adventure mode on the “Master” difficulty
- Once in the game, open the reward pouch that you received for successfully completing the Challenge Rift – It will be displayed in the interface
- Now grab the weapon of the Templar or another companion – it is always stronger than the starter weapon of your class
- Optional: Complete a boss bounty now. Particularly suitable are Maghda, Zoltun Kull, Belial, or the Skeleton King. If one of these bosses has a bounty, you should complete it. Strong items are waiting for you
- After that, proceed to Act 3 to unlock Kanai’s Cube. This is an important step to effectively utilize the step with the Challenge Rift. Here’s how to unlock Kanai’s Cube in Diablo 3 and use it correctly
Obtain Legendary Items
Once you have unlocked Kanai’s Cube, travel back to town and visit your blacksmith. Upgrade him fully right away, which shouldn’t be a problem for you thanks to the materials collected from the Challenge Rift. Now, craft a yellow armor piece or yellow weapon for level 70. What you choose depends on your class.
In the following table, we show which items might be worthwhile for you based on your class. The idea is that you upgrade a yellow item in Kanai’s Cube to a legendary item, then extract the legendary power and activate it for yourself. You can learn how to do that in the guide linked above on Kanai’s Cube.
That way, you’ll carry the legendary power with you in the early levels.

Depending on your chosen class, there are certain items at level 1 that you can exchange with Kadala in town. From the reward pouch, you received Blood Shards. You can find out which items drop for you at which level at D3planner.com.
Leveling from 1 to 70 – Here’s How
Do you now have a strong, legendary power? Then leveling will be even easier for you. If you skipped the step, you can simply start here.
Level 1 – 24
This is your choice: Depending on your preferred playstyle, you either level up with massacre bonuses in the Halls of Agony at levels 1-3 or cleanse Nephalem Rifts and complete them. Leveling with massacre bonuses requires some practice.
Solo players should progress quickly with massacre bonuses. Group players can do this until level 30, but should then switch to regular Nephalem Rifts, as progressing as a group is usually faster.
With these methods, you’ll level up to level 24.
- Every 8-10 levels, visit your blacksmith and try to craft a stronger weapon
- Regularly visit the merchants in town. They might sell you rings or amulets that offer the affix “+ Damage.” These are great for leveling.
- If you loot a head item with a socket, it’s best to place a red gem in it, which gives you more experience points. If you have weapons with sockets, red gems are also useful here. They provide direct damage in the leveling phase.
During your play phase, you should always adjust the difficulty. Trash mobs should drop with 1-3 hits. If almost everything is a one-hit for you, then increase the difficulty. If it takes you significantly longer, set the game to an easier difficulty.
Level 24 – 40
From now on, you will experience the best leveling with Nephalem Rifts.
- Complete these rifts as quickly as possible (adjust the difficulty accordingly)
- Tip for groups: Designate one player to close the portal immediately after the Rift boss’s death. In the remaining 30 seconds until closure, he should return to the group and everyone kills mobs in the portal together.
Level 40 – 70
After reaching level 40, teleport to town and visit the Mystic. Upgrade her fully now.
- Now craft a yellow 2H weapon for level 70 at the blacksmith
Make as many as needed until one weapon has a %-affix (chance to freeze, stun, etc.) - Did you get such a weapon?
No? Then keep going, farm materials and try again.
Yes? Then go to the Mystic and reroll the other secondary bonus (not the one with the %). You want a level reduction that comes as close as possible to 30 levels. - Once you can equip these weapons, equip them and raise the difficulty. Ideally, you should wear a level 70 weapon at level 40. Set it to Torment 6 and slowly adjust down if it is still too hard.
- With the high damage output from the level 70 weapon, you should now progress well.
Leveling up to 70: Now you can level through Nephalem Rifts effectively. Whether with or without a level 70 weapon, this is the right way now. With a level 70 weapon, it’s best to play on a high torment level – without a level 70 weapon, then on a difficulty where you can still quickly complete the portal.
Grind through the rifts until you reach level 70.
What’s next after level 70?
What build you play now and how you tackle the season journey depends entirely on you. As a reward for the season journey, you receive starter sets in Season 24 that play a significant role in Greater Nephalem Rifts.
Choose a set you want to play and complete the season journey chapter by chapter. You will then open Haedrig’s Gifts with the class from which you want to use the starter set. With a 6-piece bonus, you can already play on high torment levels and earn keys for greater rifts in normal rifts.
This is where the grinding can really begin.
