What is happening in Diablo 3? Today, on April 2, 2021, the kickoff for Season 23 in Diablo 3 begins. For players, this is a major event as all participants start from “scratch” in a season. Then begins a race to see who can reach the max level 70 the fastest, equip their character, and participate in the high tiers of the Greater Rifts.
A season lasts about three months and comes with some bonuses. The special feature of Season 23 is that it is based on the major patch 2.7.0, which brings important changes to the game. We will show you the details here so you are well prepared for the coming months.
Start of Season 23 – Time for PC and Consoles
When does it start? On PC, everything starts as usual on Friday evening at 5:00 PM. Provided the servers hold up.
On consoles, you’ll have to wait longer for the start.
Based on the start times of previous seasons, it is assumed that Season 23 will start on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch at 2:00 AM on April 3.
When does Season 23 end? As of now, no exact end date has been set. Blizzard usually announces the end of the season about two weeks in advance. Generally, a D3 season runs for three months. Therefore, the end could be in early July. Here on MeinMMO, you will be informed as soon as there is an official statement.
Season Theme of Season 23
What makes it special? In recent years, seasons in Diablo 3 have always started with specific season themes. For example, there was a fourth slot in Kanai’s Cube. However, there is no exclusive theme for S23 this time. The reason for this is the fundamental rework of the companions, which is already causing major changes to gameplay.
Companions like the Templar, the Rogue, or the Enchantress can now be equipped with 14 items. These are:
- Relic
- Head
- Shoulders
- Body
- Hands
- Wrists
- Waist
- 2x Ring
- Amulet
- Legs
- Feet
- Main Hand
- Off Hand
With the “Channeling” feature, you receive the effects of the legendary items your companions wear. This means that you can expand your builds with additional items without having to wear them yourself. Especially for solo players, Diablo 3 will become attractive again starting with Season 23. The special thing about this change is that it will remain permanent.

Haedrig’s Gift – The Starter Sets
What about starter sets? By completing seasonal milestones, you will be rewarded with Haedrig’s gifts. This applies for completing milestone 2, 3, and 4. You will always receive a few pieces so that in the end you obtain a complete set for one class. This depends on which class you open the gifts with.
In Season 23, the distribution of starter sets is as follows (via diablo3.com):

- Demon Hunter – Unholy Essence
- Crusader – Roland’s Legacy
- Sorceress – Tal Rasha’s Elements
- Barbarian – Wrath of the Wastes

Cosmetic Rewards from Season 23
What is that? For certain milestones in a season in Diablo 3, you receive cosmetic items as rewards. These consist of content from past seasons and new content.
In Season 23, you receive the green Emerald Serpent as a companion along with trousers and boots from the exclusive Conqueror set and a Treasure Goblin portrait frame. You already know this content from Season 11. If you didn’t unlock them back then, you have another chance now.
What’s new: You’re not just going to be satiated with old content. For completing the Season 23 journey, you will receive two new cosmetic rewards. A “Battleblock” portrait frame and the pet “Laconiyoungster”.

Achievements in Season 23
Which are they? The following achievements can be unlocked in Season 23. Each also has a variant in hardcore mode.
- Greed: Complete a 50,000,000 gold streak outside of the Realm of Treasures and the central vault.
- Speed Demon: Complete a Nephalem Portal at “Torture 10” difficulty or higher with a level 70 character in under 2 minutes.
- Boss Mode: Kill all bosses at “Torture 10” difficulty or higher with a level 70 character in under 20 minutes.
- Simply Divine: Achieve a Greater Nephalem Portal level 75 (in solo play).
- Master of All Classes: Master 8 Set Portals.
Patch Notes for Update 2.7.0
What has changed? The companion system is at the forefront of the patch notes with its significant changes. The Templar, Rogue, and Enchantress have new or revised abilities. Here we show you a glimpse of that:
Templar:
- Offensive (revised): Inflicts a massive blow on an enemy that deals 800% weapon damage. Increases the damage that the target and nearby enemies take based on the Templar’s strength for 3-6 seconds by 10%.
- Guardian (revised): If you would take lethal damage, the Templar rushes to your aid, knocking back enemies within 15 meters, healing you based on the Templar’s strength for 15-25% of your life, and protecting you from damage for 5 seconds.
Rogue:
- Nightshade (new): The Rogue creates a cloud that covers a 20-meter area for 2-4 seconds based on the Rogue’s dexterity. All attacks against enemies within the cloud deal critical damage.
- Piercing Shot (new): A ranged attack that pierces enemies and increases the damage dealt to them based on the Rogue’s dexterity for 3-6 seconds by 10%.
Enchantress:
- Temporal Pulse (new): The Enchantress summons a homing orb that deals 150% weapon damage to enemies and slows them down by 80% for 3-6 seconds based on the Enchantress’s intelligence.
- Enhancement (new): Increases your highest static elemental damage bonus based on the Enchantress’s intelligence by 5-10%.
- Prophetic Harmony (new): Reduces your skill cooldowns based on the Enchantress’s intelligence by 5-10%.
- Delay of Fate (new): If you would take lethal damage, the Enchantress empowers you, allowing you to move faster through time for 3-7 seconds based on the Enchantress’s intelligence to evade death.
Balance Changes: Revisions were made to items for the Necromancer and Sorceress, as well as the Demon Hunter (Patch Notes via eu.diablo3.com). The Rathma set of the Necromancer received some changes that redefine the playstyle of this set with other abilities.
A revised mechanics for the Firebird Sorceress makes the set very strong and an S-tier in the tier list for Season 23.
The new “Terror Gear” set for the Demon Hunter has been adjusted and received a nerf.
Changes to the Rankings: You can now view the leaderboards for solo players in Greater Nephalem Portals with additional filters. Sorted by class sets, only players without class sets, and the usual overall view.
