The action RPG Diablo 3 will get a new endgame mode in the upcoming Season 26. In “Echoing Nightmare,” it will be about never-ending waves of monsters that you defeat to receive particularly good loot. Currently, the mode is available on the test server. What kind of mode is this? Echoing Nightmare is a new endgame activity in Diablo 3. It will be added in the upcoming Season 26 and is intended to make the endgame a bit more dynamic. On the Diablo 3 test server, you can already play Echoing Nightmare now.
This is an activity that resembles Greater Rifts. The difference is that the monsters scale with your progress in the event. In plain terms, the new mode works as follows:
- You need to find the item “Petrified Scream.” It’s the key to Echoing Nightmare, and you get it from Greater Rifts.
- Once you have entered the new mode, absurd hordes of monsters will swarm over you.
- Defeat these as quickly as possible to level up (Tiers).
- At each level, the monsters become tougher.
- The event ends when you die or a scale called “Overwhelmed” is full.
- At the end, depending on your progress, there will be significant loot.
The mode will only be available to characters created for Season 26. You can see how all of this looks in action in this video:
Loot, Release, and Feedback on Echoing Nightmare
What can be obtained? The loot from the event is impressive. So far, the following items can be looted:
- Experience Points
- Legendary Items
- Blood Shards
- Gems
- Whisper of Attonement
So if you are well equipped and want to smash hordes of monsters, then you should enjoy the mode.
When will the mode be available? Echoing Nightmare will be part of the new Season 26. It is expected to start in mid-April 2022 and can already be played on the Diablo 3 test server.
What are the reactions? Initial feedback from the test server in the Diablo 3 forum is mixed. One player praises the mode for its intense gameplay and the removal of the worst bugs:
“More explosions. More interesting mobs. Not so easy to breeze through anymore. Attonement gems leveled to 125. Exploit removed. Not bad.”
Other players, however, feel that the new mode lacks originality and is essentially just an upgrade of Greater Rifts “without its own identity.”
