Blizzard announced the changes for Season 22 in Diablo 3. This includes adjustments to sets and items for classes and a change to Kanai’s Cube. Players are wishing for the new cube even before the start of Season 22.
This is happening in Season 22: For the test server of Diablo 3, Blizzard’s team has already announced what is coming to the ARPG. Among the patch notes are several changes to the items with which you can equip your classes. Season 22 even brings clones of your classes as a season theme.
Additionally, Kanai’s Cube has a fourth slot in the new season. A welcome change that players already like. But what’s so good about it?

This is how Blizzard is overhauling the feature: In Diablo 3, Kanai’s Cube gives you the ability to activate legendary properties from armor or weapons without wearing the armor or weapons on your body. Normally, there are three slots for this. One for rings and necklaces, one for armor, and one for weapons. You can activate one item in each slot. In Season 22, a fourth slot is added, which can be freely assigned.
In the fourth slot, you can therefore
- ring/necklace
- weapon
- or armor
activate. But keep in mind that items are not stackable. You cannot activate the In-Geom weapon there twice to receive the double bonus on cooldown reduction.
Why is this cool? At first glance, the change seems small. But it opens up many new possibilities for builds in Season 22. Until now, you had to limit yourself to wearing one or two weapons and putting at most one more in the cube. Now, an additional one can be added.
For you, this means that you can be much more creative with builds in the new season.
Players want the new mechanic to last forever
This is what the players are saying: On reddit, the change to Kanai’s Cube is being hotly discussed. Players are excited about the new builds that could potentially be possible because of it.
“The season hasn’t even started yet and I already want the fourth cube slot forever,” writes bamzelot on reddit. He says that he can now
- finally play as a two-handed character with 2 powerful weapons
- equip all shields that improve “Heavenly Fury”
- and do everything else that makes no sense but sounds fun
Others comment on this and agree. Users write:
- “Yes, the cube thing is really interesting. I hope they keep that. I will probably play again this season,” says fears_escalators on reddit
- Xenn000 explains on reddit that he will probably put In-Geom in the cube to get more cooldown reduction and speeds.
What are the chances that it stays? As Blizzard has already reacted to a similar request in Season 20, it seems that this change will probably not remain active in the new season.
Already in Season 20, Blizzard changed Kanai’s Cube. There you could fill the 3 slots freely and were not limited to one weapon, one armor, and one piece of jewelry. Fans wanted to keep this freedom, but Blizzard explained why the modified Kanai’s Cube couldn’t last forever.
