In Diablo 3 there was a crazy item set of rings that significantly boosted the bonus damage for each ancient item. Now the damage has been captured again.
The designers at Blizzard have just had fun with a ring set that was initially turned up high and is now falling back down.
Legacy of Nightmares, the Legacy of Nightmares, was a two-ring set that increased damage by 800% for each ancient item a player wore and reduced damage taken by 4% each. However, all of this only applied if you had no other set bonus active.
It went live on the test server like this and people went completely wild with it.
Legacy of Nightmares: Instead of 75% now 800% down to 100%
Now Blizzard has ended the fun, capturing the values again. According to designer Wyatt Cheng, the bonus was originally intended to be at 75% and then the test server was used to try out a crazy idea and increased it to 800%, just to see what would happen. This gave players the opportunity to push boundaries. And they themselves received data they would never have gotten otherwise.
The test server is there for such experiments, they say. Now they have lowered the bonus to 100%.
The “set to not have to wear sets” is hotly debated in the community. Some say: Such things should also be strong, “self-made builds” without set bonuses should be the strongest item configurations in the game. Blizzard welcomes this experimentation but also doesn’t want the “don’t play a set” rings to be the only alternative to tackle higher rifts.
The next patch for Diablo 3, 2.4., will introduce this set and many more into the game. They expect the new patch and the start of Season 5 around the end of December, beginning of 2016.
