What’s next for Diablo 3? In a blog post the developers discuss the ongoing support for Diablo 3. The team noticed that after the introduction of seasonal themes, some players returned to Diablo 3. Generally, there is a feeling of moving in the right direction with the game.
In the future, there will be:
- New seasonal themes
- A new set for each class in Diablo 3
- Dozens of new legendary properties
- Some balance changes
- Minor gameplay improvements
- The occasional update of the gameplay system
The developers emphasize that this will not be a major update that brings all content at once, but will happen sequentially. Which new content will emerge together in one update is currently unclear.
Why are the contents coming? Blizzard states that with the introduction of seasonal themes for Season 14, they wanted to break the familiar gameplay. In the future, they aim to create further new experiences and bring new ways to play Diablo 3.
This is how well Diablo 3 is doing right now: Season 16 in Diablo 3 was the most popular of all seasons. As a seasonal theme, there was the Ring of Royal Grandeur for all players as a passive ability – This apparently received a positive response.
The current Season 17 is close behind Season 16 in popularity according to Blizzard. The end of Season 17 in Diablo 3 is already in sight.
Blizzard explains that for Season 16, as many players returned on PC as for Season 12 at the launch of the Necromancer in Diablo 3.
This is how communication is improving: In the future, Blizzard wants to communicate more clearly with players, as this is a request from the players. They will show more presence in the new Blizzard forums, especially regarding new patches and PTR phases.
This is changing with the PTR servers: In Season 16, Blizzard tested shortened PTR phases, as player participation drops significantly after the first week. In the future, they intend to maintain this shorter format and not waste development potential on minor changes and further PTR builds.
If changes in the game occur due to player feedback like forum threads, Blizzard wants to clarify when these changes come from the community.
