For the “Darkness in Tristram” event 2020 in Diablo 3, there are two pets available for a limited time. We show you how to get the Calf and the Butcher as companions.
What’s new? Every year in January, Diablo’s birthday event runs, with exclusive content waiting for you. At the forefront is the dungeon Darkness in Tristram, which recalls Diablo I.
With a pixel filter and other retro features, you can face the old bosses of the series in the dungeon across 16 levels. The Season Buff of S19 will help you.
Connected with Darkness in Tristram are also the two pets that you can add to your collection since patch 2.4.3. How to get the Calf pet and the Butcher pet in Diablo III is explained here.
Farming Calf in Diablo 3 – Guide for 2020
To add the Calf to your companions collection in Diablo III, you must first complete tasks. Follow this guide, and in just a few minutes, the Calf will be part of your collection.
First, get the rotting mushroom: Reach the Darkness in Tristram event via the map. Fight your way through to level 9. Keep an eye out for a rotting mushroom. It appears on the map, can be clicked and finally picked up.
Then head to Adria’s cauldron. You will find it on the way from the Tristram portal to the Anniversary Dungeon. Turn right there. Click the cauldron to receive a witch’s elixir.

Receive the plan for Wirt’s Leg: After you have looted the elixir, go near the Tristram portal and you can loot the corpses.
- Farnham’s corpse drops the debts of a drunkard,
- Ogden’s corpse drops the letter from Garda,
- Pepin’s corpse drops the healer’s recipe
- and Griswold’s corpse drops the plan for Wirt’s Leg.
You may need to click the corpses in exactly this order to get the loot.
Here’s what happens next: Now you have the essential materials. Go to the town to craft the mace and then dismantle it.
- In Diablo III Tristram (not the event Tristram), go to your blacksmith and activate the plan for Wirt’s Leg there.
- Now craft Wirt’s Leg.
- Dismantle Wirt’s Leg again at the blacksmith to receive the Map of the Heavens.
- Now go back through the event portal and run to Adria’s hut.
- There you will see three dead cows.
- The Map of the Heavens shows you in which order to click the cows.
- The left cow has the number 1, the middle cow has the number 2, and the right cow has the number 3.
- The map shows the order 2,1,3 so click the middle cow first, then the left cow, and finally the right cow.
- Then enter the “Abandoned Farmhouse” portal right next to you.
- In the middle of the yard, you will find Wirt’s treasure. Open it.
- A right-click on the displayed Calf adds it to your collection.
Farming Butcher pet in Diablo 3 – 2020
To get the Butcher pet in Diablo 3, you need to play the Anniversary Dungeon again. The mini Butcher is relatively easy to obtain compared to the Calf and doesn’t require many intermediate steps.
- The Butcher companion is a reward for the achievement “A creepy red glow clouds your view.”
- To get this achievement, you need to create a fresh level 1 character in solo play. And don’t worry – leveling fresh characters in Diablo 3 is really fun
- With this character, you must complete the Anniversary Dungeon and kill Diablo.
- You will then receive the desired achievement along with the Butcher pet.

A completely different way to summon Diablo is provided by the current Season Buff of Season 19. The beast you summon has quite a punch.
