The primal Ancients in Diablo 3 were not well received by a large part of the community. Now Blizzard responds to this criticism.
On the PTR servers of Diablo 3, players can currently try out the Patch 2.5.0 . In this patch, Blizzard introduces the archaic items, which are even rarer than ancient items. While the archaic items also have better stats, they are supposed to have a particularly low drop chance. Many players from the community did not find the implementation of these new items good and expressed criticism. Blizzard takes this negative feedback to heart and provides an official statement.
Concerns about the changes are justified
After the archaic items were introduced, there were many discussions among the players. A new rarity level with extremely low drop chances is not what the community wants as a change for Diablo 3. Even Diablo creator David Brevik criticized the primal Ancients, as it feels like players have no influence over the loot.
Many players are not interested in the increased grind and expressed their concerns and suggestions for improvement in the Diablo forums and on Reddit. Blizzard did not miss this negative feedback. The Community Manager Nevalistis provided feedback in the forum and announced significant changes.
The Blizzard team was aware that the introduction of archaic items would be somewhat controversial due to their extreme rarity. According to Nevalistis , there are good and justified concerns. Due to the feedback, there will be significant design changes to the archaic items. However, these changes are not set in stone. Since there are still technical hurdles to overcome, these changes will not be included in the next PTR patch but at a later time.
The Patch 2.5.0 will likely not come until the beginning of the tenth season. Until then, Blizzard has time for major changes to these items.
