Today, on October 7th, the 2nd Ladder of Diablo 2: Resurrected has started. The highlight is the new “Sundering Charms”, spells that can break immunities. MeinMMO reveals the most important innovations.
Which enemies are involved? Since Diablo 2, there have been some enemies that can be immune to certain elements or physical damage. This happens when a monster’s resistance exceeds 100% for the corresponding element.
It was already possible in the past to break some immunities. However, if the resistance was too high due to additional affixes, the enemies could not take any damage from the corresponding element. This changes with the 2nd Ladder.
Expert MacroBioBoi particularly struggled with immune enemies when he played through Diablo 2 without ever attacking himself.
How will they become attackable? With the 2nd Ladder, or Season 2, Blizzard introduces spells that break immunities, or “Sundering Charms”. These set a corresponding resistance of enemies to 95%, regardless of how high it was before.
Only after that will additional effects be calculated that can further lower the resistances. Classes like the Amazon, the Necromancer, or Sorceresses, who particularly rely on one element, will benefit from this. Here you can find info about all 7 classes of Diablo 2.
In Season 2, there are the following new massive spells for the corresponding elements:
- Magical damage: “The Black Breach”
- Physical damage: “The Bone Break”
- Cold damage: “The Cold Split”
- Lightning damage: “The Sky Tear”
- Fire damage: “The Flame Split”
- Poison damage: “The Rotting Air”
You can find the new spells with ladder characters, so in the Ladder. However, they will only drop from unique, super-unique, champion, and boss monsters in the new terror zones. Additionally, they have a disadvantage: they also lower your own resistance of the corresponding element by up to 90%.
The fight against Baal is a major highlight for many Ladder players. Here is the prologue to Act V:
2nd Ladder starts – What you need to know
The new Ladder has been active since Friday, October 7th at 2:00 AM German time. Since then, you can create and level new characters for the leaderboard. Leaderboards in Diablo 2 are what you know from Diablo 3 as seasons.
Here you compete with other players to be the first to reach level 99 and have access to special items that can only be obtained there – such as the new spells. The Ladder differs in Softcore and Hardcore as well as in game version with and without the Lord of Destruction expansion.
After a season, your heroes become “normal” characters that you can continue to play. You keep everything you could obtain in the Ladder. However, there was already dissatisfaction in the community during the first Ladder.
Many players assumed that the special Ladder Runewords would also be available for “normal” characters at the end of the season. However, this does not seem to be the case. Instead, items can only be transferred if they are built in the Ladder.
In the German forum of planetdiablo, players are complaining about this decision. Some are even offering such items to the community that they built during the season. Whether this will change in Ladder 2, we do not yet know.
With the Ladder, there are also some balance changes. You can find the German patch notes on the official Blizzard site.
How long the new Ladder will last exactly, we cannot say yet. Season 1 lasted about 4 months, so the end of Season 2 would be around February 2023. However, fans have already criticized that the first season ran too long. The new Ladder could therefore end after 3 months.
Together with Season 2, Blizzard has also given players a big puzzle. Starting with just one image, the community seemingly cracked within a few days what the encrypted text is about. However, some are now wondering if there is more behind it:
