In this guide, we will show you how and where to find the Cow Level in Diablo 2: Resurrected and why it’s worth visiting.
What is it about? Veterans of the Diablo franchise are very familiar with the “Cow Level”. Originally, it was a secret level, but that quickly changed. Rightfully so, the Cow Region spread word, as it is really worthwhile for you players.
In this guide, we will show you how to unlock the Cow Level, what loot is available there, and why it’s good to participate multiple times.
Unlocking and farming the Cow Level – Here’s how
The Preparation: To unlock the Cow Level, you must possess the Horadric Cube. You will receive it during Act 2. We have a comprehensive overview of the cube and what it offers you:
Once you have the cube, you need to ensure that you have completed all acts in the game. The chosen difficulty also matters. If you finish the game on Normal difficulty, the Cow Level will also be on Normal. The same goes for Hell and Nightmare.
All set? Then proceed as follows:
- Return to Tristram (you can do this at the portal in the Field of Stones in Act 1)
- Once in Tristram, head northwest
- There you will find Wirt’s body on the ground
- Loot the body and you will receive Wirt’s Leg and gold
- Now, with the leg in your inventory, open the Horadric Cube – it’s best to do this in a town
- Place Wirt’s Leg and a Tome of Town Portal into the cube
- Click on Transmute and the portal to the Cow Level will open
What you experience in the Cow Level is shown in the following video by YouTuber CruelAngel:
Can you enter the Cow Level multiple times? Yes, you can play the level repeatedly and also kill the Cow King. This is one of the changes in the remaster of Diablo 2. What other differences exist between Resurrected and the original Diablo 2, you can see here.
Why is the Cow Level in Diablo 2 worth it?
For Armor: Especially in the level range up to level 40, the Cow Level can be interesting for you, as a lot of armor drops there.
Runes: The Cow Level is strong if you want to farm runes. They drop there up to the Zod Rune.
Other Items: As loot from the cows, you also receive gems, jewels, and charms. Additionally, there are the base items for Rune Words – gray items with multiple socket slots. Especially for these, the Cow Level on “Normal” is a popular farming spot.
There, you can also receive Uniques and Set Items with some luck. This way, you have a lot of important loot chances in one place.
