The Ladder in Diablo 2: Resurrected is the feature that fans have been waiting for since release. Finally, there is concrete information about the start – or at least about the test. MeinMMO explains when it will happen and what it entails.
What is so special about the Ladder? In Diablo 2, Ladders are somewhat like Seasons in more modern games. You start here with a new character and can compete on a leaderboard against other players. It is divided into Standard play, Expansion, Softcore, and Hardcore.
The first Ladder of the remaster was initially supposed to launch shortly after the release of Diablo 2: Resurrected in September 2021. However, this has been delayed due to larger issues shortly after launch. Now there is finally new information.
When does the Ladder start? On January 25, 2022, you can test the Ladder on the newly launched PTR of Diablo 2. The content of the first Season will be available there to look for errors and improvements.
When the upcoming Patch 2.4 with the Ladder will be released remains open. Typically, such tests on the PTR last between 2 and 4 weeks. We expect the patch at the end of February. However, the wait is worth it because the Ladder brings a ton of new content.
New Rune Words, Recipes, and Tons of Balance Changes
What does the Ladder bring? Blizzard has already released a list of new features and content for the Ladder. These include:
- Balance changes for all classes
- New Rune Words and recipes for the Horadric Cube
- Changes to mercenaries, item sets, areas, and more
Many of the new Rune Words are already known and have been tested. Not all of them are necessarily useful, but they could lead to exciting new builds. Diablo expert Dbrunski has already tested the first new Rune Word “Unbending Will”.
The changes to the classes are extremely extensive. Basically, they serve as a buff for everyone, which should particularly please the previously disadvantaged melee fighters. There are damage increases and some attacks can no longer be interrupted. However, fans of Barbarians are already certain that one of their builds will remain “unplayable”.
In Blizzard’s blog post, you will find the full patch notes in German.
How do I participate in the test? At the moment, the PTR is only available for the PC version of Diablo 2: Resurrected. To participate, navigate in the Battle.net client in the Diablo 2 tab at the bottom left to the dropdown menu above the “Play” button.
Select the option “PTR: Diablo II: Resurrected” there. Install the client if necessary. You should then simply have access to the PTR and can test the new content. Are you already excited about the Ladder? What do you think will be the most exciting change?
