Diablo 2 Resurrected is still struggling with massive server issues after a rough start. Now, developer Blizzard has spoken out and announced a PTR and a new patch. MeinMMO summarizes the information for you.
What issues are we talking about? Since the release, Diablo 2 Resurrected has been facing significant server problems. Players sometimes get stuck in queues for hours, there are frequent crashes and longer outages.
- Blizzard cited the “too modern” behavior of players as a reason, who have initiated too many boss runs.
- The server structure of the over 20-year-old game cannot keep up with that.
- Meanwhile, the mood is pretty hostile due to statements like this.
- Particularly bad is the mood on consoles, where players even demanded to remove these versions of Diablo 2 Resurrected from sale.
In response to the issues, Blizzard eventually introduced queues to better manage the load on the servers. However, this also drew criticism, as players sometimes had to wait for hours to get onto a server.
Before the start of Season 1 of the Ladder Mode, players do not believe that it will run smoothly at all and that the game is ready for it.
Now, Blizzard has finally commented and revealed how they plan to address the issues.
Diablo 2 Resurrected improves queues and announces PTR
This is how Diablo 2 Resurrected wants to improve the situation: In a statement from the official forum, Blizzard announced that they will implement some changes to the server structure to stabilize it.
Specifically, it concerns which database the online characters of the players are stored in. Currently, these are stored in a global database, which requires additional server capacity. Currently, they are working on a change to store these more regionally in the future.
This change is currently being tested internally by the developers and will be made accessible to players on a test server afterwards. This is to ensure that there are no problems when uploading to the public servers.
It is not yet known exactly when this change will be publicly tested, but there is expected to be a client update regarding the queues later this week.
What kind of update is this? The update aims to improve and make the queues more transparent. In the future, players’ placement in the queue will be displayed. Additionally, they also want to show the potential waiting time in the queue.
Furthermore, they are working on methods to get more players on the servers during peak times and better manage the number of players (via us.forums.blizzard.com).
What else does Blizzard say? In addition to working on the server issues, patches that aim to fix bugs and glitches are also in the works.
Further information on this is expected to follow in the near future, but it is said to involve “significant” updates.
While the mood surrounding Diablo 2 Resurrected is not good, competitor Path of Exile is shining with its latest update among its fans.
What do you think of the statement? Do you find the changes reasonable? Or are the measures perhaps not sufficient for you?
