Patch 2.5 for Diablo 2: Resurrected was released on September 22nd, and it came with a riddle. After initial confusion, the community is now apparently on the verge of solving the mystery.
What is this riddle? The patch notes for the latest update of Diablo 2: Resurrected not only explained the changes in patch 2.5, but also attached an image at the bottom.
This image was added with the following sentence and a link:
“We leafed through the old manual of Diablo II and found this confusing entry … What does this mean?” Here is the image:
The image shows a lot of things – from the “inscription” in the form of a code to coins, keys, a statuette, a dagger, and much more.
The collage immediately raised question marks in the community about what they should do with it. But apparently the key to solving the riddle has already been cracked.

Is this the solution? Only a few hours after the patch notes were released, Diablo fans came up with solutions, one of which seems very promising.
YouTuber and Diablo expert MacroBioBoi explains the approach in his video:
The YouTuber input the code from the image into a “cipher” to decode it. The result was: “So many gems what do these orange numbers mean”, which translates to “So many gems what do these orange numbers mean.”
With this knowledge, the YouTuber navigates to the chat gem. This is an largely useless, clickable, purple gem icon that depending on clicks gives either the message “Gem activated” or “Gem deactivated”.
However, if you click on it often enough, you get a seemingly random nine-digit orange number sequence at a random point in time.
But the numbers couldn’t be random, MacroBioBoi argues. Now the idea arose that these numbers are hints to positions in the manual. The conclusion reached was:
- The first part of the number indicates the sequence in the overall context
- The second part is the page in the manual
- The third part is the line
- And the fourth part is the word
So you get a word for each number sequence at the end. And these words then form – presumably – a fitting overall context.
What comes out of this? This is still not quite certain. The YouTuber is combing through the image with editing software and finds numbers, dates on the coins, numbers on the keys – with the motto “what does it all mean” you would have to consider everything.
MacroBioBoi thinks: Based on the other clues in the image, there could be 666 messages that tell the story of Diablo 2 Resurrected – or another exciting part of the lore.
He bets on “a cool Easter egg to hype people for Season 2.” The next ladder starts on October 6th.
The YouTuber and the community are currently gathering more and more of the numbers to assign words to them and eventually get a text out of it. So it is – presumably – only a matter of time until the riddle is completely solved.
It is usually a matter of time to reach the max level in games like Diablo. But in Diablo 2 Resurrected, a player achieved this in just 8 days.
