Fans of Diablo 2: Resurrected have been waiting since release for the most important feature: the Ladder. There is still little information about it. However, Blizzard has now announced a test server for the remaster. Players are happy, despite the lack of an update.
This is the situation:
- On September 23, 2021, Diablo 2: Resurrected, the remaster of the ARPG classic, launched.
- Back then, as well as today, the Ladder is missing – quasi the seasons in Diablo 2. This is supposed to come with the upcoming Patch 2.4.
- Now Blizzard is bringing a test server (“PTR”), but is only testing the server structure at first.
What is being tested? According to a tweet from the official Diablo channel, databases and server updates are to be tested on the public test server. What exactly this entails has not been specified further.
However, this is probably in preparation for the upcoming update 2.4. Already at the release of Diablo 2, there were major issues with the servers. There were connectivity issues and even “deleted” characters due to poor connection.
The problems lasted for many weeks and dampened the excitement significantly. Apparently, Blizzard wants to prevent this now when the next big update is coming and is testing the connection for that. The PTR starts today, January 12, 2022. A specific time is yet to be announced.
PTR tests server structure, Patch 2.4 and Ladder still take time
What is the Ladder anyway? In Diablo 2, there was something like seasons, which were then still called “Ladder”. For a limited time, you could play special Ladder characters and equip them with items that only exist there. There are 4 different leaderboards:
- Standard/Softcore for Diablo 2 without Lord of Destruction
- Hardcore for Diablo without Lord of Destruction
- Standard/Softcore for Diablo 2 with expansion
- Hardcore for Diablo with expansion
The Ladder is there to promote a certain competitive spirit in the community. Anyone who wants to compete with others can look at the official leaderboards to see who can farm faster or better.
Blizzard has already announced that new items will come into play. These mainly include Rune Words, particularly powerful, custom-built weapons and armor. In addition, there are new recipes for the Horadric Cube and some adjustments.
When does the Ladder start? So far, the date is still pending and many fans are eagerly waiting for the feature. For them, Diablo 2 really begins with the Ladder. By now, most players have probably reached what they want to achieve and are looking for new challenges.
This is exactly what the Ladder would be suitable for. However, there is still nothing beyond a “Coming Soon” regarding it. We will report on MeinMMO as soon as we know more about the release.
