Blizzard has released a new video showing some of the developers playing Diablo 4. Within hours, negative comments and disbelieving reactions from players have accumulated under the video on YouTube and social channels. There is heavy criticism of the state of the game.
This is what Blizzard has shown:
- On Friday, August 11, Blizzard released an “Adventure with the Devs” on YouTube.
- The dungeon designers Dini McMurry and Josey Meyer can be seen defeating the dungeon Belfry Zakara.
- The reactions to the video are mostly negative, which is not only due to the gameplay skills of the two developers. Here, the current dissatisfaction with Diablo 4 is unleashed.
This is how the video is received: The ratio of likes to dislikes can no longer be viewed on YouTube; however, the video has received only 847 thumbs up since Friday with over 256,000 views (as of August 14). This results in a rather poor ratio.
At the same time, the currently largest thread in the Diablo subreddit has over 6,800 upvotes and 3,600 comments. There, fans are discussing this video and criticizing what can be seen.
The main subject of criticism is what is not shown to viewers in the video:
- The two developers do not address any of the current community topics
- There is no relevant information about the state of the game or the future
- None of the “technical topics” of the two women are mentioned
- Instead, there is only gameplay on the lowest difficulty level (“World Tier 1”), where the developers even have problems playing it
The user Battle_Fish remarks: Not everyone has to be good at video games. But at least someone could have been put in place who has played Solitaire before: “This implies that the PR department that organized all this doesn’t care about the developers at all.”
On YouTube, the comments are even sharper. The video is described as excellent advertising – for Path of Exile and Last Epoch.
Due to the lack of relevant information, the focus is entirely on the gameplay, which no active player can take seriously at all, say other users: “The video is not good at anything. I learned nothing in these 10 minutes.”

“Are we the clowns for buying this game?”
For the players, the video is currently a sign that the developers themselves do not know what is wrong with their game and how they need to improve it. They take the developers’ gameplay as an example:
- The Barbarian in the video, for example, only uses standard attacks, no fury, and therefore has little positive impact on the events.
- The dungeon is one of the more difficult ones in the game, but fans still expected the developers to be “better” here.
Diablo 4 faced a lot of criticism shortly after release including missing or boring endgame content, a flawed loot system, and the general lack of action in the gameplay.
Blizzard has made improvements over the weeks, to the point where players even celebrate some dungeons. Even on Reddit, where almost only negative threads can be found at the moment, the mood is slowly improving.
For many fans, however, the new video is a setback, after Blizzard has just recovered from the severe criticism of Diablo 4. Due to the revisions, many things have improved and there are already some glimmers of hope for the future:
