The developers of Sons of the Forest respond in a video to a speedrunner who completes the survival game “The Forest” in no time.
The Forest is a survival game that has already gained great popularity on Steam. The game comes from the developer studio Endnight Games Ltd., which will soon release the highly anticipated sequel Sons of the Forest.
As part of an IGN video, two developers from the game studio watched a run by the speedrunner Akaya and commented on it. The two game creators in the video are:
- Evan Haley, the Lead Tester of Endnight Games
- Rod Green, the Project Director of Sons of the Forest
The two watched as the speedrunner managed to complete The Forest in around 20 minutes. In the end, they express their admiration for the player’s performance.

The speedrunner hops through the forest
What is his strategy? The most striking aspect of the speedrun is probably the way of movement that the speedrunner chooses: Akaya hops with his character around. The developers then explain that diagonal jumping in the game helps achieve a higher speed. This allows the speedrunner to save time with his unusual method of movement.
In the boss fight against Megan, a young girl with mutations, Akaya also demonstrates a sophisticated strategy. He skillfully attacks the monster with a spear, perfectly timing his movements to Megan’s attacks.
The developers suspect that the player is aware of the mechanics of the attacks and positions himself exactly so that he will not be hit. Successfully: In a short amount of time, the speedrunner also completes this fight.

How do the developers react? In the end, the developers express their admiration, saying: “That’s crazy, that’s great.” They are excited to see someone taking the hard path without using too many exploits but just playing it.
Who is the speedrunner? The speedrunner is named Akaya. On his YouTube channel, he has already uploaded several speedrun videos of The Forest under the name Akaya-Kaito, usually taking around 15 to 25 minutes to complete the game. He varies between different modes, from Peaceful to Hardmode.

The sequel titled Sons of the Forest will be released this week. On February 23, 2023, the new installment from Endnight Games Ltd. will be released.
Initially, the game will be released in Early Access. How long it will remain in this status before the full release is still unknown. Steam states 6 to 8 months – but they do not want to commit too much yet.
