The developers of Helldivers 2 thought you would let kids die to get new mines, but you “surprised and delighted” them.
What’s the deal with the kids? In June 2024, a new general order presented the players of Helldivers 2 with a nasty choice: They could either secure resources for the production of anti-tank mines or save sick children. They could not save both.
The players chose to save the sick children. Subsequently, the developers of the shooter donated money to the charity “Save the Children” – in response to the heroic decision of the community.
However, some players are now unsure whether saving the children was the right choice, because with the update on August 6 a new tank will reinforce the robots in combat.
Here you can see the trailer for the new update – including the new enemy tank:
Developers thought you would save the mines instead of the children
What do the developers say? The developers of Helldivers 2 talked about saving the children in a new community update.
The team was reportedly surprised by the players’ decision:
In truth, we probably thought the players would choose the mines. We are aware of the joke that not choosing the mines has caused (e.g., “it’s fun to keep missing them”), but this seemed like an easy win to grant the community the missing stratagem. Instead, this was one of those truly incredible moments in which the community surprised and delighted us.

Subsequently, the developers thanked the players for the donations they sent to “Save the Children” and made it clear how much they appreciate the community of the loot shooter: “You are truly amazing, Helldivers.”
Even though the players chose the children over the mines in June, they might still receive the useful equipment now – whether they want it or not: Helldivers 2 now threatens you with equipment that you continually reject if you do not kill 1.5 billion opponents in time
