CCP Games, the studio behind the space MMO EVE Online, has announced a new action MMO currently in development. A fresh press release gives hints about what we might expect in an indefinite time.
What kind of MMO is CCP Games planning?
A new mobile game seems to be ruled out: Already in December 2017, CCP Games hired new people to work on a new game. At that time, CCP Games was already planning the mobile game Project Aurora.
Even the announcement back then left doubts about whether the unannounced project would be a mobile game. However, new information seems to rule out a mobile game.
Unreal Engine as a foundation: In a press release, CCP Games stated that Unreal Engine 4 is the exclusive development tool for all previously unannounced CCP projects. This includes the previously unknown MMO.
CCP Games is working together with Epic Games and their source code to develop the new game. With the corresponding code, games like Fortnite have been developed. Whether the new MMO from CCP Games will also be inspired by Fortnite is still open.
From MMORPG to Action MMO: When CCP Games first looked for developers for the new game, the unknown game was referred to as an “ambitious MMORPG.” However, the press release now states that an “action MMO” is being created in London.
It is unclear what the change in designation means exactly. It could mean that CCP Games is developing another game that has nothing to do with the MMORPG. However, it is also possible that CCP Games is no longer working on an MMORPG, but on something else.
