The project manager behind the MMO DC Universe Online apparently no longer wants to focus solely on the DC universe. Instead, he plans to develop a large AAA MMORPG in the Marvel universe in the coming years. Find out here at MeinMMO everything we already know about the new Marvel MMORPG.
What game is it about? The DC Universe Online studio Daybreak Game Company is part of the holding company Enad Global 7. This group recently held an investor presentation (via enadglobal7.com) and presented new projects there, among other things.
Among them were news about existing games from the group, such as DC Universe Online or Lord of the Rings Online. But the most exciting was certainly the very last announcement. Because at the very end, there is talk of an “Unannounced MMORPG”.
This is supposed to be a AAA title developed by the studio Dimensional Ink Games. It certainly has nothing to do with the ill-fated flop “Marvel’s Avengers” or the stylish mobile game “Marvel Future Revolution”.
Chief developer has been trying to realize a Marvel MMORPG since 2006
Who is the chief? The project leader is also Jack Emmet. Until now, he has been the boss of DC Universe Online. But he probably has a greater passion for Marvel because since 2006 Emmet has been trying to develop a Marvel MMORPG.
He almost succeeded once, and Microsoft actually wanted to develop a game called “Marvel Universe Online”. In the end, however, things didn’t turn out well, and the project was abandoned.
Jack Emmet’s passion for superheroes is undisputed, as he was also a co-founder of Cryptic Studios, which developed the superhero MMORPG City of Heroes.
DC Universe Online is supposed to continue to be developed, even though the chief will probably turn to Marvel in the future.
When is the Marvel MMORPG coming? Anyone hoping for a timely release of the game and already imagining themselves as Iron Man, Hulk, or Black Widow defeating enemies in 2022 will have to be patient. Because the release of the project is clearly under “long-term planning” and will certainly not be completed before 2023, probably even later.
So play the free and revamped DC Universe Online for now if you are into superheroes. The MMO with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and co will celebrate its 11th anniversary in January 2022.
