The studio Gamepires is developing the survival MMO SCUM on Steam. However, the employees experienced their own survival scenario. In addition to the restrictions due to the coronavirus, an earthquake devastated the studio. Nevertheless, a new update has been released.
What happened? The game studio Gamepires is based in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. There, they are developing the survival MMO SCUM, which is supposed to be particularly tough and is currently in early access on Steam.
In Croatia, public life, like in many other countries, has almost completely come to a standstill due to Corona. On March 22, several earthquakes of up to magnitude 5.5 occurred.
The employees shared some screenshots from their offices in a post where they also published the latest patch notes. Despite the difficult times, the developers are delivering new content.
What do the developers say? In a statement, the developers informed their community that they are doing well. However, this may not be the case everywhere in Zagreb:
Hello everyone, before we get to the patch notes, here is a message from Gamepires.
The Croatian capital Zagreb has been struck by the strongest earthquake in the last 140 years. Fortunately, we at Gamepires are all safe, but many people have lost their homes and part of the destroyed infrastructure is still being repaired.
Our thoughts are with all those affected by the earthquake.
SCUM simulates a realistic prison show
What is SCUM? SCUM is a survival game that somewhat resembles The Hunger Games. You are a prisoner thrown into an arena where you fight for survival against other inmates. Of course, for the entertainment of the viewers.
Just like in The Hunger Games, you can win sponsors who support you with items.
Alongside hostile players, hunger can also be a struggle. However, you must be careful not to overeat, as this makes you slower and can even lead to a heart attack.
What did the update bring? The new update mainly brought many small changes:

- Certain items can now be stacked in the inventory
- Sewing tools for repairing clothes
- Numerous “quality of life” changes and bug fixes
- A gas mask as a cosmetic item
