Lost Ark has been long awaited by many players. The developers recently announced in an update how they are currently working on the MMORPG.
What is happening with Lost Ark: At the beginning of September the postponement of the MMORPG Lost Ark was announced. Instead of being released as expected in 2021, Lost Ark is now set to celebrate its release in 2022.
Reasons given include localization, bugs, and server structure. These are also the areas that the current September update from the developers focuses on (via Lost Ark)
It explains what is currently happening behind the scenes of the game and what the developers are working on at the moment.
4,500 Characters with Voice-Over – Lost Ark Needs to Translate a Lot
What is happening with localization? As described by the developers, there is currently a lot of text work to do so that the MMORPG can be released as planned in English, Spanish, French, and German.
The English translation of the Korean original, which serves as the basis for the other versions, includes three million words and is still growing. This sometimes causes UI issues, as the Korean version is shorter compared to German or English, and the new versions need to be adjusted in terms of space as well.
Additionally, there is the voice-over work for voiced characters in Lost Ark. This involves over 4,500 characters, which is why many weeks have been spent in studios with voice-over artists. Furthermore, music plays an important role, which is also being localized.
“We want to ensure that our players feel an emotional connection to these events,” the developers explain the effort put into localization: “We want you to feel that this game was made for you, and that takes time, creativity, and a lot of love.”
Servers and Testing Also Require Effort
This is what Lost Ark is still working on: The developers explain that they are currently working hard on the infrastructure to avoid latency issues. However, server architecture has caused problems, which means additional work is needed there.
With Smilegate RPG and Amazon Games, four combined years of labor have been invested to optimize the technical conditions. New game releases are often accompanied by server problems.
In addition, there are many play tests to ensure that Lost Ark is as free of bugs as possible and everything runs as planned. Over 30 different game builds have been tested, along with further feedback loops from the community.
To what extent these measures pay off will become apparent by the time Lost Ark is released. The next important date for a glimpse into the game is the beta for Lost Ark.
