In Call of Duty: Warzone the event “The Last Stand” – Heroes against Villains, Good against Evil is currently running. Players collect points for one side to prevent a catastrophe on the map Caldera. However, the developers also seem to have something against the “catastrophe” and are helping the heroes.
Call of Duty: Warzone played for a long time on a Soviet-inspired map – Verdansk. Large apartment blocks characterized the cityscape, the colors were dull, and an exaggerated radio tower symbolized the power fantasies of the Soviets in the Cold War.
For a long time, players demanded a new map and the island paradise Caldera came. An absolutely contrasting program.
But the map is still controversial, even massive changes to Caldera have not been able to change that so far. So many players want the old map Verdansk back and saw in the current Season 5 an opportunity, a chance to somehow justify it through the story.
For the announcement of the event was: If the villains win, it could lead to a catastrophe on Caldera. Perhaps the complete annihilation of the island. The villains already threw something into the volcano in the Season 5 story trailer, which has been bubbling ominously since then:
Whether it was due to the narrative prospect of the old map or CoD players simply love being evil: The scoundrels around Raul Menendez managed to collect significantly more points, being nearly uncatchable just a few days after the event started.
However, the evil side of the CoD community underestimated the developers from Raven Software. They decided a few days ago that the tokens of the good side would bring double points for 4 days.
And lo and behold: Currently, both sides are nearly tied again. The good side is even ahead by 4 billion points.
- Event Status 09/07 – 12:30 PM
- Good Side: 145,226,168,386
- Evil Side: 141,098,006,800
- Difference: 4,128,161,586
While writing this article, I kept track of the numbers a bit, and the evil side seems to be catching up again. Nevertheless, players are now discussing on Reddit whether the event outcome is completely predetermined and if the developers are cheating more than they want to admit.
What do players say about this? A larger thread has formed on Reddit. With about 500 upvotes in 12 hours, it currently ranks among the strongest topics in the Warzone subreddit. The title: “WTF guys? I thought we were all villains …”:
In the thread, there are no positive comments about the event. In fact, there is a lot of complaining, and the event is generally criticized. It is said to be lame and would only lead to additional sound effects impairing the gameplay. In comparison, even the Halloween events are praised:
Furthermore, many commentators are disappointed about how the event has been openly manipulated by the developers. Some go even further and say it is even “predetermined” which faction would win in the end. Namely the good ones.
The comment with the most upvotes accordingly reads: “Yeah, it’s all predetermined. Dumbest event ever”. There are many users who see it similarly and write “Manipulated choice, 100%”. User rhinsaur- writes: “This is fake. No way it turned like that.”
There is also a suspicion that the responsible parties want to prevent an evil side victory in order to block the prospect of a return of Verdansk.
What do you think about the topic? Is there more cheating going on than is admitted? Do you think it has to do with the old map Verdansk and a possible return? Feel free to leave a comment with your opinion.
