A uniform set that could originally be purchased with in-game currency has been removed from Battlefield 5 and is now back – but only for real money, that is €.
This uniform is about: The Pit Crew uniform, a cosmetic set consisting of several equipment pieces, was available in the Arsenal, a type of in-game shop in Battlefield 5, for a while since December 2018.
In the Arsenal, the uniform set could be acquired with in-game currency, Company Coins.
In January 2019, this uniform was removed from the Arsenal. Now it is back – and this is currently causing unrest among fans of Battlefield 5.
What is the problem with this uniform? DICE has now brought the set back, but differently than most players probably imagined. Because the Pit Crew uniform can be purchased after its return exclusively with Battlefield currency, that is, only for real money.
This is how fans are reacting: Many fans are furious on Reddit and are making their voices heard on the discussion platform in numerous posts:
- This step is considered by many to be hardly surpassed in audacity and greed.
- Moreover, there are fears that other cosmetics, such as the Flim-Flam uniform, might meet the same fate.
Cutting already released content from the game and then offering it for real money is a big mistake that no one can understand. Because it should be clear to everyone that fans and customers will not be pleased with such practices.
Players who have not completed the set while it was still obtainable are now forced to reach for their wallets if they want to complete the uniform. Many players are fed up.
Some suspect that EA is trying to test how far they can go with microtransactions among players.
What do the developers say? An official statement is still pending. A moderator from DICE has already spoken up in one of the threads, promising to look into the matter and gather more information. Unfortunately, there has been no update from him yet. However, we will continue to monitor this issue for you on MeinMMO.
It is not the first time there has been anger over cosmetics: Fan protests in front of DICE headquarters, becoming a community hero
What do you think of this step? Is EA testing the players’ pain threshold here? Do you think DICE will backtrack on this?
In an opinion piece, MeinMMO author Sven discusses DICE’s actions:
