The developer of the popular Steam hit Terraria has publicly taken on Google: Because they banned his account on YouTube, the App Store, and Gmail, he has simply canceled the release of Terraria on Google Stadia. This apparently showed effect.
This is the situation: Andrew Spinks (37) is the head of the indie studio Re-Logic, which had a massive hit with Terraria back in 2011. The game, with its pixel art style, was released for PC 10 years ago and has since made its way to practically every system: It has also achieved enormous success on Google’s mobile platform Android.
Terraria was supposed to be released for Google Stadia, but Spinks suddenly canceled the release in February 2021 and maliciously criticized Google:
Google does not appreciate its customers and partners. One does not want to do business with such a company.
Because Google had suspended Spinks’ accounts three weeks earlier. He could no longer access his data on Google Drive, could not check his emails, and could not finish watching “The Lord of the Rings in 4K.” This apparently hurt him the most.
Even on February 10, Spinks ranted (via twitter):
“You do not deny a man his Lord of the Rings Extended Edition in 4K and expect to get away with it!”

From Spinks’ perspective, he had done nothing that justified the ban. His complaints and emails to Google did not get through. He wrote: The people at Google would just refer him from one to another.
So he angrily canceled the release of Terraria on Stadia.
Google unbans accounts – Terraria is coming to Stadia after all
This is how it turned out: The developer’s company, Re-Logic, has now issued a new statement. It now says:
“After months of pressure (and thanks to the immense support of our fans), Google has finally contacted us and brought a lot of transparency to the situation. They have given us back access to all our accounts.”

Now Terraria will actually be brought to Google Stadia – Re-Logic will use the latest build from DR Studios 1.4.0.5. That one is already at Google Stadia for certification.
No statement has yet been given by Spinks regarding his successful unbanning coup. He is surely busy finishing “The Lord of the Rings in 4K.”
