One of the developers of Baldur’s Gate 3 is a big fan of Red Dead Redemption 2. The only game he believes he could surpass is GTA 6.
Who is it about? Michael Douse, known on X.com as Very AFK (@Cromwelp), is a developer and “Publishing Director” at Larian Studios, the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3. He frequently comments on games by Rockstar Games, recently predicting that GTA 6 could change video game prices forever.
Now he has once again commented on Rockstar Games and GTA 6, but this time positively.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is unmatched – For now
What does he say about the games? In a post on X.com, the developer admits to being a big fan of Red Dead Redemption 2. He describes the Western game as: “Product of a bygone era” and since its release in 2018, it has perhaps been surpassed “only by a small correlation of nothing in terms of its meticulous breadth and depth”.
He likely refers to his own game, Baldur’s Gate 3, which has also been highly praised by players for its extensive possibilities. He further explains that only GTA 6 might ever reach the high standard set by Red Dead Redemption 2:
“With GTA6 that is probably the case, but even then the subtlety of pace and performance could still be a completely lost art. It remains to be seen, but it is a fascinating milestone in the sense that it might have been the last real milestone.”
He further explains that games like Red Dead Redemption 2 simply are no longer being developed. The game is “architecturally perhaps the last Housemann complex or the last pyramid. In short, they don’t make them like they used to.”
Does he not believe that new developments in the future could surpass RDR2? Yes, he is even convinced of that, but only in individual areas. Overall, Red Dead Redemption 2 will likely remain untouched according to him: “I believe it will be surpassed in many ways, but in some crucial points I am less optimistic. A calm, ponderous, subtle story about nothing and everything, with a budget that would make a finance officer cry.”
