For him, the PS5 Pro is a fair offer. A developer from Lords of the Fallen believes that the PS5 Pro, despite its high price, surpasses a gaming PC. And he demonstrates this specifically with his own game.
What excites anyone so much about the PS5 Pro? Eduard Gonzalez, lead engine developer at Hexworks, expressed his enthusiasm for the PS5 Pro in an interview with wccftech. Just recently, the Spanish studio released a patch for the PS5 Pro that adapted its work, Lords of the Fallen, for the new console.
The stronger hardware now allows the action RPG to be played at max settings either in native 4K with stable 30 FPS or upscaled 4K. This is not possible on a comparable PC, praises Eduard Gonzalez:
Building a PC with comparable components – GPU, CPU, memory, and SSD – at a similar quality level would be significantly more expensive, so it’s great to see that Sony is making this high-end hardware accessible to a wider audience. […] The PS5 was solid, but the Pro offers exceptional hardware.
A PC for 800 to 900 Euros vs. PS5 Pro
What hardware is needed for the action RPG? We have already gathered for you in the past, what kind of PCs you could get for the approximate price of a PS5 Pro (799 Euros RRP). A look at the system requirements of Lords of the Fallen (via Steam) shows that with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, which we identified as fitting hardware for the price range in the above article, we significantly exceed the recommended Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080. But they are assuming 1080p, 60 FPS, high settings.
To truly achieve 4K (upscaled), max settings, and 60 FPS, much stronger hardware is needed, as Techpowerup demonstrates in its performance test of the game. At least a GPU of the class of an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 would need to be installed in the system.
How much money do I need to spend? So he is right with that statement. For a gaming PC that presents Lords of the Fallen in such a way, you would have to put down significantly more than 1,000 Euros.
At Dubaro, you would get such a computer for around 1,300 Euros:
- Intel i5-14400F
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 or AMD RX 7800XT
- 2 TB M.2 SSD
Gonzales is not the only one who is enthusiastic about the hardware of the PS5 Pro. A studio head explains why he considers the PS5’s extra performance irrelevant. It is not visible anyway.
A feature that is entering living rooms for the first time on a PlayStation console is the previously mentioned PSSR. This is how Sony refers to its approach to AI-assisted upscaling from lower resolutions to higher ones. You can read everything about this technology, which is comparable to Nvidia’s DLSS approach, in our article: What is PSSR? The new technology of the PS5 Pro explained
