Yesterday, there were no changes to weapon balance in Destiny with update 2.5.0. Now Bungie comments on it.
Since “Rise of Iron”, Guardians have been waiting in vain for innovations in weapon balance. There is currently a shotgun meta, which many players are unhappy with. It’s long overdue for a new meta, for variety in the Crucible. Other weapon categories should be buffed, they complain.
However, the winter event “The Dawning” disappointed in this regard. The patch notes for 2.5.0 brought numerous meaningful changes, but not a trace of weapon balancing. When can we expect this?
The focus is on shotguns
The sandbox team at Bungie is responsible for weapon balance. They are now speaking out.
Initially, the team explains in a statement that they always listen to community feedback.
When it comes to weapon balance, several factors are considered: all player data, user feedback, their own gameplay experiences – and they have noted the discussions about shotgun dominance.
“Yes, we see you, Matador!”
Bungie specifically highlights the shotgun Matador 64 in their statement. This belongs to the powerful archetype with high damage and high range. However, they emphasize that they certainly do not want to nerf shotguns to the ground.
Instead, they are looking for solutions to bring shotguns better into the current balance. They should still be effective and fun in the future. “Positive changes” are to follow that will make Destiny better for everyone.
The community manager Cozmo adds that sandbox changes are not on the agenda until 2017. In the new year, Bungie will look for an appropriate time to deploy a weapon balance patch.
“The Dawning” is now in Destiny. This event runs into the new year. You can read about the innovations that The Dawning brings here. In this article, we present the patch notes for update 2.5.0.
