In the Weekly Update for Destiny, it has now been revealed that fully upgrading exotic items will be significantly faster and easier in the future than it has been so far. It will take much less material and time.

Iron Banner returns on December 16

Bungie feels the rough winds regarding upgrades
The dominating team in the Weekly Update was, however, the stress regarding upgrades of exotic armor. The discussion started with an article from GameInformer and overwhelmed Bungie a bit in the last few days.

They never wanted guardians to look at their items and think that they are now worthless and that all the effort that went into them was in vain. The items are still effective at level 30.
Upgrading exotic items should go much faster
